TRACER ' 63 TABLE OF CONTENTS Foreword and Dedication 2-3 Administration and Faculty 4-14 Seniors 15-48 Underclassmen 49-60 Activities 61-72 Sports 73-87 Patrons 88-92 FOREWORD This year the Tracer Staff chose The Pioneer Spirit as its theme. We felt this was a most appro- priate theme since ours was the first class to go from seventh through twelfth grade in the new high school building. To carry through our theme the Art Staff created the little pioneer whom we have called The Spirit of ' 63. We hope you will find him a pleasant companion as you page through our yearbook. Our sincere thanks go to Mr. John Skinkus and Miss Maria Smith, our advisors, who patiently abided with us in all our decisive moments. Our thanks go also to Mr. Ernest Rohrbach, our photographer, and the school Photography Club for the pictures used throughout our yearbook . In this, the 1963 TRACER, we have tried to capture the life and spirit of Brandywine Heights. As you turn each page may you always remember the time? Ill) , ' I J DEDICATION With sincere appreciation and gratitude, we the class of 1963, dedicate this, the seventh edition of THE TRACER, to our principal, Mr. Alfred H. Ayres. It is with admiration that we remember his thankless ef- forts in behalf of the student body and recall his words of encouragement and guidance. May we prove worthy of his efforts. FACULTY MR. Muehlhauser, Vice President; D. Ziegler, Secretary; W. Gehringer, President; R. Ruppert, Treasurer. 17 SUSAN JANE ACKER Commercial Susie, one of the smallest Seniors, but one of our loudest cheer- leaders, never failed to ex press her opinions at class meetings. Al- ways ready to supply our class dances with Chips, Susie rarely missed any school dances. She was usually busy after school when she was working part time for a dentist. Becoming a practical nurse and marrying a doctor are her future desires. Band 1,2,3,4; Cheerleading 1,2,3,4; Chorus 4; Class Play 3; Jour- nalism 1; Business Club 2; Judo Club 3; Tracer Staff 4. BONNIE B. BEHM Commercial A hard worker of our Senior Class, Bonnie was always willing to offer her services during yearbook and class meetings. She was cer- tainly an extra added attraction in the Junior Class Play because of the many laughs she brought as Azalea, the lobster woman. Bonnie plans to continue to offer her services by joining the Navy as a prac- tical nurse. Student Council 2; F.H.A. 2, Vice Pres. Club 1; Chorus 4; Tracer Staff 4. 3; Class Play 3; German FREDERICK W. BISBORT Academic Fred, the newest member of our Class of 63 who joined B.H.S. in his Senior year, certainly had no problems in making friends, es- pecially with the girls. One would never suppose that Fred could por- tray the shy, reserved character of George in Good Night Ladies so excellently. Fred ' s future plans include college at Penn State. Soccer 2,3,4; Wrestling 2,3,4; Class Play 4; Tracer Staff 4. DIANE BLANKENBILLER Commercial Diane was most noted for her contageous laugh and sparkling personality. Her willingness to cooperate made her a welcome addi- tion to any group. Diane ' s leisure time love was dancing. She proved to us that there ' s danger even in this seemingly harmless (?) pastime. Diane ' s ambition is to be a practical nurse. Chorus 1; F.H.A. 2,3,4. BRENDA BOYER Commercial Brenda continued to keep everyone guessing as to what color her hair really was. It seemed to change color with her moods. Always willing to lend her voice in the various chorus concerts, Brenda en- joyed ushering at our class plays and other school activities. Her fu- ture plans include becoming a rich secretary. Chorus 2,3,4; German Club 1; Service Club 3,4; Tracer Staff 4. WILLARD N. BRENSINGER Industrial Arts Brainy ' s presence at every dance in the area had much to do with its success. One look betrayed that he was in a room, because he dressed flashily. Popular with the girls, his ambition is to join the Navy, and if possible, drive stock cars. Stage Crew 3,4; Collector ' s Club 1,2. 19 KEITH ALLEN BRITZENHOFF Wally ' s innocent looks were often deceiving. Although quite dependable and studious he was always ready to join the gang in their shenaningens. It ' s better to stand aside when he and Alan become in- volved in a football or singsong match. Wally ' s high marks in Physics or Trig will be a help to him in securing a Mathematics or Engineer- ing degree. Bio-geography 2; German 1,2; Honor Society 3,4; Class Play 4; Tracer Staff 4. MARION L. CHRISTMAN Industrial Arts Whenever Butch was talking about something, which was often, that something was probably either girls, cars or his dislikes which ranged from school ... ah ... ah ... to school? Tall, dark, and handsome, he was a lady ' s man. You could tell he was near by his own peculiar brand of laughter. His future remains undecided. Chorus 1; Safety Patrol 1,2; Stage Crew 3; Collector ' s Club 1. PAUL H. CHRISTMAN Industrial ' Arts Paul brought his steady to every dance after which he took her ' to a certain diner at Moselem Springs. There he treated himself to a 7 -up Special and her to a gallon of Hi -Test . . .? From past ex - periences-with his steady (green 51 Chevy) Paul could very easily become a good auto mechanic. Band 1,2; Dance Band 1,2; Stage Crew 3; Photography 1. ROYAL JAMES COLE Academic A snicker in the back of history class, a latecomer in band period, a junior Bob Cousy on the gym floor -- that ' s Royal. As the man with the golden toe on the soccer team, Royal established a reputa- tion for versatility despite an inability to kick the ball straight. Royal was also a standout on the wrestling team, winning eight out often matches. His ambition and drive should win him success in fut ure life. DELLICKER Academic A deep blush and a broad grin characterized Red. No one knew whether he got his nickname from the color of his hair or the color of his face. When he wasn ' t alternating between stand-out and stand- by for the soccer and wrestling squads, Bill could be found either in the projection booth or the Blue Bomb with Gehringer and Rumble. Bill plans a career in drafting and architecture. Band 2,3,4; Soccer 1,2,3,4; Varsity Club 3,4; Dance Band 2,3; Rifle Club 1,2; Visual Aids Club 1, Pres. 3; Tracer Staff 4. GERALDINE D. Band 3,4; Dance Band 3,4; Class Play 3,4. BARRY L. EPTING Commercial Barry has seemed to inherit the title: star fuel pump attendant, from his older brother, for Barry is employed at Hertzog ' s Gas Sta- tion. Whenever Barry smiles, it ' s the sign that he and Gehringer, are cooking up something. So he can learn some more tricks of the trade, Barry intends to enlist in the Navy. Band 1,2,3,4; Stage Crew 3; Tracer Staff 4. ELAINE M. FEGELY Elaine, dubbed Fegelv, was our girl with a smile that never fades; hence her other nickname: Sunshine. Paul ' s ambition is to be a tool and diemaker or mechanic. Band 1,2; Wrestling 4. PETER V. FRITSCH Academic Here comes our guy with the twinkle in his eye and the spring in his step. Why! ... Gerry was always willing to render her services for our school. Her endeavors are sure to pay off as being a secretary. Library Club 1; F.H.A. 2, Sec. 3, Treas. 4. 23 WILLIAM C. GEHRINGER Bill seemed most at home when roaming the basketball court, guarding the soccer goal, or hanging around first base. Although he was president of the Varsity Club, sports weren ' t his only interest. He served successfully as Class President during both his Junior and Senior years. We are sure he will be just as successful in whatever career he enters. HAMSHER Academic As president of the Student Council, N il did more than his share of Opening Exercises; and oh! -- how he nated missing school for those State Conventions. Baseball 3,4: Collector ' s Club 1; Stage Crew 3; Journalism 4; Class Play -- Student Dir. 4; Chorus 4; Glee Club 4; Tracer Staff 4. SHELDON L. HEIST Rabbi was usually heard before he was seen, because of his loud, spreading laughter. It was no small wonder that Rabbi was often the butt of jokes in class. Who wouldn ' t be? -- with a nickname like that. Because Sheldon was such a good sport it was with affection that we called him Rabbi. All of our best wishes go with Sheldon in whatever he plans to do. Baseball 3,4; Class Play 3; Photography Club 3; Tracer Staff 4. 25 LEE HESS Vocational Agriculture Hessy, a hard working student, liked farming as can be seen by his membership in the F.F.A. Despite her participation in many activities, she never seemed to run out of pep and she contributed much to the success of all the class projects. Enthused over anything pertaining to art, Debbie ' s ambitions lie in the business field. TREXLER Industrial Arts Trixie, one of the quieter members of the class, was usually smiling and happy. We will never forget his beautiful (?) two-tone Ford, which he managed to put into a nearly a vertical position after the Senior Class Play. We hope that in the future he has better luck hunting; and that his dream of owning a wood and metal shop comes true. Photography Club 1,4; Stage Crew 3; Library Club 2. JAMES R. ULRICH General Academic When Coach put Jim in the basketball game, the team started hopping. One of the taller members of our class, Jim possessed a deadly outside jump shot. Besides being a welcomed addition to the bas- ketball team, Jim also enjoyed music in both the chorus and the glee club. Jim ' s future plans are to see the world, courtesy of the Marines. A member of the F.F.A. for four years, he was ready for an answer or an occasional argument about farming techniques. A friend to all, we are sure Eddie will succeed as either a volunteer worker or a farmer. F.F.A. 1,2,3,4. DONALD ZENTNER Industrial Arts Slim, as his nickname implied, was slightly on the heavy side. Usually near the end in a foot race, Slim made a good soccer fullback or football lineman. A loyal friend, Slim was rather quiet and shy. His future remains undecided. Though last alphabetically, she ' s on top when it comes to a good sense of humor. Gym classes, to which she contributed spirit, keen competition, and undying energy, wouldn ' t be the same without her. Class Secretary since 9th grade, Donna keeps her minutes straight. What with the cameras ' flashing, the teachers ' yelling, and our laughing and tripping about in our gowns, we, the graduating class, barely made the 8:00 P.M. processional. After staggering down the aisles we warmed up to the addresses of the Co-Salutatorians, Barbara Roth and Alan Sawyer, and the Valedictorian, Linda Muehlhauser, and fried through the Commencement speech of Miss Esther Willits. Much later, after these speechs were completed, Dr. Brown, perspiring visibly under the spotlights, awarded diplomas to the Seniors, some of whom expressed their disbelief of their graduating by forgetting to move their tassels from left to right. Following the Alma Mater and the Benediction, we recessed to the hand -blistering receiving line. 46 Wr lit H ■M LINDA MUEHLHAUSER MISS ESTHER WILLETS ALAN SAWYER BARBARA ROTH UNDERCLASSMEN Left to Right: T.
