Brandon's band and orchestra, under the direction of John Hamilton, promote an interest in music in two ways. First, they promote the enjoyment of music by allowing individual students to grow musically by listening and participating. Secondly, they foster school and community spirit. The band performs half-time field shows during football games, marches in parades, presents three concerts a year, and participates in state-sponsored events and competition. The orchestra presents winter and spring concerts and participates in the Orchestra Festival and regional competition. co CERT B First: J. Myrick, P. Doyle, K. Mei, D. Molloy, C. MacKinnon, J. Before being chosen, each would- be assistant had to fill out an applica- tion and be inter- viewed. In guidance, the assistants answered telephones, alphabetized schedules and schedule change sheets, took new students on tours of the school, and assisted parents and students at the discretion of the guidance counselors. Library assis- tants helped students check out books and reshelved books that had been returned. The clinic assistants helped Brandon's nurse, Anita Hicks, administer first aid and comfort to students coming to them for assistance. The main office assistants worked at the direction of the school secretaries and principals running errands and filing. Without the valuable help provided by student assistants, the staff would have found the efficient operation of the school much more difficult.
