A good school, if it is doing its job, provides students a chance to grow socially as well as academically. At Brandon students had the chance to participate in a wide variety of clubs where they could not only pursue a favorite sport, pastime or subject but also meet new people and make new friends. ltlsle There were large groups, like the band and FHA, with over 100 members each, and small groups, like the debate team ,,, and the newspaper staff, with only ten members each. Some groups performed before the public, some were ser- vice orientedg and some used their expertise to provide activities where teachers and students got to know each other better. Each group, however, provided its members a chance to learn things not in a textbook. Students learned how to befleaders as well as followers, how to manage and organize, and how to relate to other ,people in agsocial environ- ment. 545
