Porter In its first year of competition, Brandon's girls' track team dis- tinguished itself. With four victories and one tie, the team placed fourth in the city overall. In addition, Brandon took one first place, one second, and two thirds at the city-wide track meet. Germaine Harris, Sandy Jones, Linda Malone, and Freida Hurdle provided needed strength in sprints. The field events were dominated by these four girls as well. They were responsible for the success of Bran- don's 880 medley team which lost only one race during the regular season. The award for most valuable track performer went to Germaine Harris, who earned 94 points throughout the season. The most valuable field per- former was Freida Hurdle with 75 points. The Coaches awards went to Sandy Jones and Linda Malone. 36 1 I P . A place to rest. The low hurdles provide a tired track star a place for a momentary respite from the rigors ofthe sport.

Seven of the players will be returning in 1980 to form the core of that team and provide needed ex- perience. The most valuable players for the 1979 season were Frank Cisarik and Bernell Stallings.
