Zhe History of Brandon High School Brandon High School was built in 1916 by contractor, Thomas Rogers, whose bid of $41, 773 was accepted. Of course as time progressed, it cost more than first estimated because of world changes. Up to this point all twelve grades were in the old Seminary which long since has been converted into a public school. In the northwest corner of the building is a marble block bearing the figures 1916. Inside this block is a copper box containing a number of articles including: copies of the seconds of district meetings at which the school was discussed and authorized, names of the architect (Elmer Bailey), contractors, building committee, principal and superintendent, a copy of the latest school catalogue, school district report for 1916, copies of the Rutland Herald and the Brandon Union. Also included were a bulletin of the State Board of Health containing rules in force governing school buildings, a pamphlet containing a brief history of Brandon and accounts of early school meetings in the town, date of the breaking ground for the building with a statement of its cost as shown by the accepted bids, a report of the special committee appointed to investigate and report on the question of a new building and some coins dated 1916. The towns that sent students to this school then were: Sudbury, Leicester, Shoreham, Castleton, Orwell, and Brandon. This year was our last as a separate school, for next year we will be included in the Otter Valley Union High School. We can never forget all the students and faculty that have come and gone from B. H. S. and the impressions they have left with us. We hope that this last year has been the best B. H. S. has ever had in spirit, sportsmanship and all that is traditionally dear to us.
