BRANDON HIGH SCHOOL BRANDON, VERMONT Dear Seniors: Fate placed in your hands the unique opportunity of being the last class to graduate from this educational institution. You stand at the apex of one hundred and fifty-five years of secondary education in the village of Brandon, the last forty- five of which have been in the present plant. Many illustrious classes and several thousand students have graduated from Brandon High School and have gone on to make their mark in the world. I am sure that the Class of 1961 will be no ex- ception to this long tradition of fine graduating classes. You have given freely of your time and talents in making this year one of the best years. So often the pervading feeling can be one of What is the use. Let's wait until next year, under circumstances similar to ours. Your leader- ship has been felt on the soccer and baseball fields, the basketball floor and in the Athletic Council. The school news- paper and yearbook give promise of being the finest yet. The student council and monitor squads have never functioned more effectively. This list could continue at length. While you cannot claim all of the credit, as Seniors you occupy positions of leadership in most of the organizations of the school and consequently set the tone and morale level of the stu- dent body. I would like to offer you a challenge and yet another task. As alumni of Brandon High School, are you going to be satisfied with standing by and watching this group gradually die out as the years go by? Any school benefits from a strong alumni association. The new Otter Valley Union Hjgh School needs your support. The alumni of Brandon High School and Pittsford High School occupy much the same position as the parents of the bride and groom at a wedding. Understand- ing parents with greater insight from years of experience can smooth away many of the problems that are met in the first few years. Favoritism and partiality on the part of the parents can only make the path more stony and the union more difficult. I ask you to support and actively exert leadership in any effort that your association may make in the amalgama- tion of the two schools and in alumni programs supporting the educational objectives of the new high school. I have enjoyed the opportunity and privilege of sharing with you the past two years of our respective lives. I extend my heartiest congratulations to the Class of 1961 and with them my fervent hope for your future success. Sincerely, Lloyd A. Kelley
