Many people who were not involved in a service club criticized them. Despite what some thought, ser- vice clubs did exactly what their name impliedg they provided school, community and even international services. Girls' ln- teract met and surpassed these stan- dards. As a school project they composed the Fight Song and had it hung in the gym. They painted signs every week of the football season to promote school spirit. And like all other service clubs, they par- ticipated in Homecoming activities such as window painting and creating an ex- hibit. Girls' Interact could often be found working in the community. They stuffed bags with goodies for the Barnett Bank during Halloween and helped with the Key canned food drive at Thanksgiving. They visited Lowe's Nursing Home every month and gave small gifts and hand- made cards to the patients at Christmas. During the Christmas Season they also had a program for Rotary and sponsored a drive for needy families to provide gifts and food to those who would otherwise have had none. The club cleaned their two medians weekly. They also got sponsors for the Leukemia Walk-a-thon. These efforts of Girls' Interact gave them recog- nition in the community as a hardworking service club. The forty member club sponsored by Miss Donna Hawley and Mrs. Marjorie Johnson not only worked to serve their school and community, they also had an international project. They made clothing to send to the orphanages in Haiti. So although some tried to accuse service clubs of being merely social clubs. Girls' lnteract's list of accomplishments ruled out this myth and placed them at the top of the list of service clubs. Sorority mons, Kelly Thompson. lv' -1 fm-.J M S-ti Bryan Clark, President of Jr. Jaycees, said of his club, We really got things accomplished this year. We did what we set our minds to doll Washing cars to earn money for the ad budget and service projects, visiting the children at Nettle's and doing yard work at Nettle's, putting together a Homecoming skit, and clean- ing the teachers' parking lot were just some of those things they set out to do. Jr. Jaycees had been a Brandon club for five years and was made up of thirty- two members. Mr. Ftoy Rayburn spon- sored the group. Backing up President Clark were Mike Cronin - Vice Presi- dent, Scott Davidson - Secretary, Joe Garcia - Treasurer, David Johnson - Senior Director and Scott Fafinski - Junior Director. The group worked along with sister club Jr. Jayceettes on most projects. The efforts of Jr. Jaycees resulted in valuable services rendered to our community and school. Jr. Jaycees perform their skit at the Hop-n-Eagle pep rally with sister club Jr. Jayceettes and earn a second place trophy. After completing their job at Nettle's, Gregg Cas- taline, Bryan Clark, Mike Cronin, Adam Key and John Kimble just monkey around. Jr. Jaycees X 49
