Many students did not realize the importance of learning how to exit the rooms in a quick but safe manner. When the alarm sounded, the students were to leave the room and fol- low the directions that were posted in the room. They were to go to their destina- tions with their teacher and wait for a bell to ring to signal that everything had checked out and was fine, and then were to return to their classrooms continue with their work. At the first of school year, the sound of the alarm times sent confused sophomores into th front driveway instead of into the we parking lotg but firedrills, like other phas of life in the big building, soon becam part of the routine.
