Service clubs had been active at School for a number of years, and through their numerous projects in the school and community, they'd earned the recognition and respect of many. It naturally followed that many students wanted to belong to one of these clubs - more students than the clubs had room for. Because membership slots were limited, the service clubs con- ducted rush each year. During rush candi- dates for membership were invited to meet with club members and to answer questions which could help the service club decide who should fill the vacancies on the club roster. Some candidates came away disillusioned by being so put on the spot. Others considered the same situation a challenge to be met. When lists of new members were announced, reac- tions ranged from glee to disappointment. Whether a person ended up as a member or not, though, all would add rush to their lists of unforgettable high school memories. X E Kathy Gall Blane Gantous Darin Garner Donna Garrldo Arriving at school in the early morning hours was a first for many of us, as was getting up before the sun rose. Adjusting to this schedule took time, but as the year progressed we adapted to waking early. As sophomores we had the entire morn- ing to prepare for school, as juniors only a short time considering school started at 7:15. Some students found themselves waking up during first period, catching a few winks if ever possible. Each morning students could sit in the auditorium and listen to rock music or attend CFS devo- tions, while others congregated in the commons and lunchroom area. Many stu- dents considered morning session better, because that way they could hold after- noon jobs or go to the beach with friends, among other various activities. Although dragging ourselves to school in the early morning was a new experience, we learned to enjoy the afternoon fringe ben- efits.
