They had made it through worms and frogs, but the idea of examining the in- sides of what they normally considered common household pets was somewhat more perturbing. Yet, for most, once actual dissection began, the scientists natural curiosity took over. Students in the course were earning college credit for their efforts. Many in the class would go on to enter the fields of science or medi- cine. From this lab experience, they gained the kind of knowledge that neither the best teacher nor the best textbook could impart. 242 !
