Cami Bristow, Head Colorguard, earns the privilege of leading her group each week by maintaining a good record in the classroom. Bench or Field? Eligibilit Decides Once upon a time students were able to participate on sports teams, in band, in orchestra, and in other organizations such as Colorguard and Dancerettes by simply having made the team. Then, along came the eligibility card. Each week, every team participant had to turn in to his coach or sponsor a card on which his teachers had recorded his most up-to- date academic grades, conduct grades, and records of attendance in class. The card was very important to each partici- pant because what was recorded on each week determined whether he wou play or be benched for the week. T existence of eligibility requirements p extra pressure on team members, b most admitted that it also encourag them to study harder, behave better, a attend class more regularly. When a st dent appeared in an event over t weekend, we knew that he was a pers who was also living up to high standar in the classroom.
