Crystal Ball In an attempt to relieve the unfavorable counselor- student ratio and heavy de- mands which made one-to-one assist- ance with career development between student and counselor virtually impossi- ble, the Guidance Department had intro- duced Discover. Discover was a compu- ter that helped meet the need for addition- al career guidance on an individualized basis. Discover stored vast quantities of in- formation about occupations, colleges, technical - specialized schools, military programs, financial aid, apprenticeships, and local jobs which could be retrieved and updated. Discover provided assist- ance in all these areas: - self-information, including values, interest, and competencies - exploration of occupations in a sys- tematic way -teaching and low-risk practice of de- cision making - informational assistance with imple- mentation of choice. By working with this computer and fol- lowing it through the various modules, a student could eliminate his weaknesses and focus in on his assets which could be helpful in his choosing a career.
