A Kick in the Bl-IS Grass Until about 1970, soccer had been a game played by Englishmen, a sport about which we in the U.S. knew little or nothing. ln Brandon, interest in soccer had sprung from two sources: Tampa's major league soccer team and youth par- ticipation in large, well-run soccer league in the community. When Hillsborough County appropriated funds for the estab- Iishment of high school soccer teams, Brandon students responded by turning out in large numbers to vie for positions on the team. From the fifty who tried out, Boys' Soccer Coach, Paul Trojak, had to out twenty team members. Although turn- ing away good players because there was no more room was difficult, it pointed to the strength of those who did survive the cut to become members of Brandon's first team. i N 1 qc.
