Prophecy Rev NILES BASHAW gave the IIIVO catIon the first day and The Star Spangled Banner was sung by our own BETTY SPENCE The greatest surprIse of all came, when I saw MARGIE RUSHING and CATH ERINE SWINGLEY leadlng cheers for the Georgla Senator who was a candldate for the presIdentIal nomInatIon I learned that the wIfe of the senator, the former BARBARA SUMNER, had orgamzed the cheerleaders Speeches were long and numerous, and there was a note of festIVIty too I saw BILL GORDON and BUCK SCOGIN sellIng balloons to a group of young matrons, and I walked over to them, after recog nIzIng MARY HARRIS I learned that sh was workIng for her husband, a candI date for nom1natIon for vIce presIdent, and was urgmg the group to help her WIth her were EDITH PADGETT, CAROL RAGSDALE, BETTY BIRCH, GEORGIA PATE and ELIZABETH LANE I later learned theIr new names, as all were happIly marrIed At the thIrd sessIon I attended, I sat by the former MILDRED DENHAVI who explalned that she and her husband, who was a delegate from Flor1da, were com bInIng pleasure wIth busmess and had left theIr chIldren at home She told me that her older chIld was takIng pIano lessons from ROBBIE JONES MIldred saId they had just bought a home whIch had been buIlt by ELGENE SIINIPSON and that Gene and BEVERLY QHOGANJ were get tmg along fine together wIth theIr two chIldren Wfhen the conventIon adjourned, I went back to the hotel to eat before I left for the aIrport to return home by plane The cook there was ESTHER MILLER By the way, the hotel was owned by RALPH HARRIS and DOIN ML CATTY, whose wIfe was ELOISE STONE WhIle rId1ng out to the aIrport I saw ANITA HOLTON, SHEILA REGAR and SHIRLEY RIMES comIng out of the large buIldIng of a model agency When I arr1ved, the plane was bemg checked over by the mechamc, LEE HERHAN As soon as we got aboard I recognmed MARY COX, the aIrlIne hostess, who Sald we would leave In a moment So many of the passengers on board looked famIlIar There was ARLENE HANNAWAY, HILDRED PARIS, CAROL VEN DITTO, GAIL WARREN, and EVA MORGAN, all on theIr way to FlorIda for a short VacatIon from theIr dlfferent jobs In the MldWCSt In front of me sat BARBARA PAUL, a famous commercIal artIst, wlfh her ZSSISYHDI, MYRA DOLLAR I Enally arr1ved In Tampa It surely was nIce to be back At the aIrport I met HELEN GILL and LORENE RICH MOND on theIr way to New York to organIze mISsIons In the large cIty I walked outslde and caught a taxI whIch I had to share wIth CAROL HARRIS who was plannIng to WFIIC a book about her recent tour of the U S Cn the way to the bus statIon I saw O ANN BROWNE In a car wIth the SIgn ust MarrIed on ICS trunk Cur bus drIVer was JERUM FOWLER He Informed me that DAVID CURRIER and ROBERT EVANS also worked for hIs bus company There were many places of busIneSS enroute to Brandon We passed by an AnImal HospItal operated by VeterInar ISHS JIMIMY ZINK and WILLIAM GILL Farther on I saw a bIg machnne shop wIth the names CARLTON PREMER and WAYNE MCCLAMMA on It, and InsIde I glImpsed FREDDIE PICKETT workmg After a wh1le we reached Brandon, now a Small town noted for IIS school and athletncs The new head coach was ALBERT STANDARD AS I passed the grocery store I notIced Jo ANN CHILDERS comIng out wIth an arm load of grocerIes on the way home to her husband and famIly CELITA BLEVINS was behmd her and she had wIth her not only grocerIes but also two chIldren As I got off the bus and rode home I thought of how wondeful It was that we could hase such a democratnc country In whIch we could have such a conventIon as I had been to JAR ICE DYRES Pug lu nh I . 4 4 ' ' 4 .
