Bud Schmid and Gene Han- son. the Brainerd Bees wound up a l958-59 football season with two wins. one loss, and one tie. The Bees,' opened their 1958-59 season with a slashing victory over the St. Cloud Tech Tigers l3fO, on the A'Bees' home turf. The tribe then turned west to meet a rough Staples eleven and bowed in defeat 40---O. Star halfback, Bob Rohdal, broke his leg late in the third quarter. The little HWarriors then traveled to the home of the Aitkin Gobblers which ended in a I3---l3 tie: a real heart-breaking thriller for both gridirons. The Bees then ended the 1958-59 season by traveling southward to out- maneuver a slow Little Falls squad, 27-7. The sophomore tribe gives a promising outlook for the i'Warriors in the years to follow. D0n't you dare to knock down Ron, implies jeff Smith. Staples The team accomplished a perfect homecoming by making a shambles of the stubborn Staples eleven, 37' 0. With spectacular driving of fullbacks. Ron Kramer and Ron Strowbridge. the YYarriors dominated the game from start to hnish leaving no mistakes behind. Little Falls Courageously. the 'WN'arriors bowed to defeat. 27f-7, to a much more experienced and faster Little Falls eleven. During the first half. the Sundby men held a 7f7 tie, but Brainerd's fumble on their own 12-yard line. gave the ball to the Flyers, who took the advantage and went ahead to win with a score of 27-H-7 on their home held. Aitkin On our home turf the Aitkin 4'Cobblers pounded-out a hard fought James Flaskerud 13fO victory over a gallant Warrior tribe to wind up the third con- ference game of the season as our Hrst loss. Fighting spectacu- larly, the Sundby men held the Gobblers to a OA-0 score until late in the third quarter when the WYarriors fumbled and Aitkin took advantage of the situation by scoring two suc- ..,f cessive tallies. Crosby-Ironton The L'Y'Varriors,' once again gained Oscar,M the little brown jug, by skimming the CI Rangers with a Hflfi victory. Fumbles and penalties handicapped the Brainerd eleven al- though the g'Rangers had their share of difficulties with in- juries. Coleraine Ten seniors gave a good showing in the last game of their high school careers, but the Coleraine 'BLumberjacks proved too much for them by winning with a score of 30-7. The i'XN'arriors made only three mistakes, but these were enough to cost them the game. The unexpericnced Princeton team fought a hard - but losing S battle throughout the whole game. 98 60 Brainerd Vs. Little Falls 49 In the second home game of the season, the VVarriorsw triumphed over the Little Falls '6Fly- ers 60-49. While not more than six points ahead at any time during the First half, the YVarrio1s endurance surpassed that of the tir- ing 'gFlyers in the second half and carried them to victory. 42 Brainerd Vs. St. Cloud 52 The g'VVarriors then traveled to St. Cloud to be handed their first tough defeat 52-42 as they hit only 2192. The g'Warriors, who just couldn't find the hoop, fought gallantly as their defense held the Tech quint to only a 10 point victory. 65 Brainerd Vs. C-I 63 The Kellett-men, in their fourth tallie of the season, met a rough and rugged C-I Ranger quint who in the last seconds fouled Tom Ly- scio, who then put us into a tight victory. Both teams played good ball, and it was anybody,s game until the buzzer sounded. 25 Brainerd Vs. Aitkin 62 With the serious leg injury of star Jeff Smith, who was averaging 27.7, the Kellett-men bowed tremendously in defeat to a much taller, but slower, Aitkin squad 64-25. The Warriors shot a mere UW, averaging 6 points per quarter. 50 Brainerd Vs. Wlillmar 83 Averaging 21 points a quarter and shooting 5852, the VVillmar Cardinals succeeded in giv- ing the VVarriors an 83-50 walloping. With big uRed,' Harvey under the bucket, the War- riorsu had little to say about rebounds, not to mention the tip-ins. 63 Brainerd Vs. Staples 56 The Warriors were victorious again when they downed the Staples nRailroadersH 63-56. This time it was the good training in defense that pulled the Kellett-men through as they made a large percentage of the score on free throws. 79 Brainerd Ye, XX'aclena 80 The ninth game proved to lie ll hearthreaker when the Brainerd five bowed to the XN'atlena Indians 79 fill. YN'adena 78 In the second battle with the top ranking Wladena 'ilndiansf' the 'fYN'arriors started with an early lead which held true throughout the third quarter, but becoming a little excited, failed to hold it during the fourth as they bowed in defeat 78-73. 55 Brainerd Vs. Crosby 65 On CI's own court. the YVarriors fought gallantly, but under a losing streak of 5 straightj made it 6, by going in defeat 65-55. Quick on defense, but they couldn't quite hold their own on offense, the f'VVarriors,' began to fail as the fourth quarter closed. 56 Brainerd Vs.
