Future Teachers of America The Durham County Club of F.T.A. aims to help future teachers learn facts about teaching. They try to understand the character qualities essential to a good teacher, they study the lives ot great teachers and observe teachers at work. The Durham County F.T.A. Club is sponsored by the Classroom Teachers and the Durham County Branch ot N C EA, Mrs. Mollie Keesee, lowe's Grove, and Mrs. Etta G. Lowe, Bethesda, are Co-sponsors. The Durham County Beta Club has striven to encourage leadership and scholarship. One ot its main objectives has been to help schools throughout the county which do not have Beta Charters to estab- lish clubs in this organization. Vi I A Presidents The Durham County Student Council sponsored three dinner meetings with the six high schools as hosts, The Council oficers and members participated in several panel discussions on Know Your Durham County Schools, They encouraged visitation to the new Northern High School, They sponsored a courty-wide Student Council Conference in the tall for the training ot leaders, They studied and presented their findings on the advantages at a supplenientcrry school tax. They have shown how such a tax will pro- vide additional teachers, lilvrarians, and a more varied curriculum in the newly consolidated high schools, Many of the members attended the State Conference in Shelby in the fall.
