CLASS If you could turn back the hands of time four years to i950 we could see an excited clan entering high school. We had a very large class and, for the first time, Bethesda had four freshman home rooms with Miss Brogden, Mr. Smith, Mr. Farrow, and Mrs. David- son, as our teachers. Being in high school was quite a new experience, but the initiation week made us feel at home in our new surroundings. Then came the big day for our physical examinations at the Health Department. We got back to school at lunch time but no one seemed to be hungry. I wonder if the hotdogs we had in town had anything to do with that. We enioyed our health classes this year be- cause we had an opportunity to go out and play ball. This was much better than sitting in class. We had a very nice trip to Pullen Park, especially since our grade parents supplied us with all the food we could eat. We managed to pull through algebra and science and to go on to the tenth grade with Mr. Davis and Mrs. Newton as our teachers. By this time, we were attending the county football and basketball games and some of our boys were already on the teams, This year was the beginning of having Bethesda cheerleaders, and we had many of our girls on the squad. Our Bethesda basketball team, coached by Mr. Davis, was the county champion. We were very proud of our boys because they worked hard for this honor. We had an interesting algebra ll class, and we shall never forget the stu- dents taking a test on a special kind of paper. As Juniors, our home room teachers were Miss Huey and Mrs. Lemos. At last we felt important. We can look back on this year with pride because o' our successful play, Zeke and Daisy, directed by gEseARCt'l

HISTCRY Miss Huey. We had a wonderful time giving the play and especially the hot dogs we ate back stage after the performances. All the play cast enjoyed a very nice dinner at Miss Huey's home in Elon one Sunday. We also enioyed our ride down there and back. We enjoyed working on the Hawaiian banquet which included making hula girls, grass huts, and palm trees. When we finished the decorations we wer proud of the results, especially when our guests complimented us on them. Bot e very h of these were sig- nificant achievements. We were guests of the seniors for a return party at Lake Mirl. At last the time had come. In l953 we were full- fledged seniors. We have come to find out that being a senior is not all a bed of roses as we had thought. Instead, we find ourselves slaving over soci- ology papers, vocabulary notebooks, office practice sets, shorthand brief forms, geometry theorems, and French verb forms. Making money for the senior trip was hard work, but we had fun making brunswick stew and selling different things. Our play, Curtain Going Up, directed by Miss Hawks, worked us at the time, but we do not regret a single minute of the time that we spent on it. We owe a great deal of thanks to our senior sponsors, Mrs. Newton and Mrs. Webb, who have worked very hard for us this year. The clock hands show us that our time at school is nearly gone. We realize at times we could have used our days to better advantage, but we sin- cerely believe that our years spent here have con- tributed immensely to insuring a better future for each of us.
