THIS WE Cn September 5, l942, a group of rather frightened youngster entered the first grade at Hope Valley. This was the beginning of OL long education. For the first three years we studied simple reading writing, and arithmetac. Albert Brinkley transferred from another schoc to ours that year. As we entered the fourth grade we began to study history, whic we all dreaded, and also found ourselves writing such themes as Wl' I Must Not Chew Gum in School. This year is well remembered. As we entered the fifth grade, we began to feel as though we wer grown. Mrs. Rhyne taught us how to sing that year. Ann Riley ioine us. The sixth grade brought forth book reports and geography. TI boys who were eligible ioined the Safety Patrol. Ronnie Peele ioined oi class that year. Alas, the seventh grade and Mrs. Rhyne again. That year our cla practically split in half. Many of our classmates left us to enter ci schools. The eighth grade brought us two girls, Jane Davis and Jeannet Isaacs. That was the year we began to change classes like the hig school. The girls also began to wear lipstick and they thought it wi grand. WMM5

ii 'MW ZW WSM1.. .-..,. - ' gg. .j, if tt Www J wifi RECALL The ninth grade consisted of initiation and being marked as Green Freshmen. We didn't mind that so much, especially with Mr. Smith as our teacher. Paul Wheeler entered our class that year. The tenth grade was mostly remembered as one of waiting to :ecome a Junior. That year Carolyn Stegall came to our school. Our Junior year turned out to be the one with the most fun in it. The Halloween Carnival and the Junior-Senior Prom took much of our time. The Junior play will also be alive in our memories for a good Nhile. That year three more students ioined us. They were Loyd Winn, Eugene Elliott, and Rita Kennedy. And, finally at last, we are Seniors. Four people have ioined us this fear. They are Pat Skleris, Edna Atwell, Themis Kountis, and Jimmy Saney. The ones who have been together for twelve years are Shirley Starrett, Evelyn Hyatt, Frances Nichols, Joyce Elliott, Rosa Belle Pender- graph, Sonny Kearney, and Tommy Smith. Our last year at Hope Valley will never be forgotten. With our Senior play and plans for our trip to Washington under way, we are horoughly enioying this year. Pretty soon we will be wearing our caps md gowns and receiving our diplomas. With the help of Mr. Vincent ind our many teachers, we have finally reached the goal we set for Jurselves some twelve years ago. We shall always cherish the mem- Jries of our many friends at Hope Valley and the wonderful times we iave all had.
