The first teacher to get gray hair over us was Mrs. Delilah Webb. In the fourth grade we received eight students from Speer School. That school consolidated with Braggadocio and there were then 45 of us. In the seventh grade, Ben Todd was our sponsor. In 1553 we graduated from grade school and there were 32 enrolled in the Freshman Class of ’54. In the eighth grade, Miss Beulah Huffman became our sponsor and has remained with us throughout the remainder of our high school years. Due to her continued efforts, we accumulated more than enough money to see us through the remainder of our twelfth year. When we were juniors, we gave a banquet for the Seniors at the Top Hat Cafe in Caruthersville. Our theme was centered around Ihe Orient. Afterwards the room mothers sponsored a party for us at the American Legion Hut, also in Caruthersville. Several of the teachers remarked that it was one of the most successful banquets they had ever seen. Our Senior play, Rest Assured went over well with the community. On April 27, we left on our Senior Trip. As the classes before us had done, we took the southern tour. We were gone nine days and eight nights which was the longest trip that had ever been taken by a class from Braggadocio. Of the twenty graduates of 1956-57, ten started in the first grade at Braggadocio. The 1957 graduating class of Braggadocio High School decided to hold a class reunion on New Year's Eve 1970. It was held at a reputable night club in Monte Carlo which is owned and managed by Fay Lack. Yes, we did” say reputable. Fay has been doing very well in his business and all his former classmates are glad he is the owner of such a good place so they can have their reunion there. The reunion was planned by the senior president, Doris Riggs, who is now a minister's wife. They are living in Doris’s old home town of Union City,Tennessee. Doris is very happy in her church work and all her friends say she is quite a conscientious worker. Of course, all of us seniors already knew that. The first notable disturbance was caused by John Cunningham and Charles Sim- mons who were two members of the Back Table Gang. Both were noted all through high school for their ability to keep a party lively. The first guest to arrive was an old friend of ours who was always noted for her promptness. She entered on the arm of a handsome doctor. It was Suzanne Lewis or rather I should say, the former Suzanne Lewis. She had realized her life long ambition to become a nurse and now she had married her airforce doctor. They are the proud parent of two children. 34 The next arrivals were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Alexander. (Mrs. Alexander is a former student of Braggadocio.) Jerry has been doing research on a formula for a new gaseous substance which will eventually destroy all teachers. One of Jerry's best friends was the next to come. It was A. D. Baker. A. D. is a graduate of Missouri University and is teaching mechanics at a large school in the East. Earl Martin Coppage then entered with his striking ark-haired wife. He is now the owner and operator of a chain of gins throughout the South. Ginning ap- parently runs in the family. At about that time Nancy emen and Ethyle Johnson came bopping in. Although they had not seen each other since graduation, they could still rock 'n' roll as well as ever. Ethyle has now become an actor and has taken the place of William Holden in the movies as the top romantic star of the age. As for Nancy, she is zery successful in politics and has just become the first lady vice-president. She and Ethyle are now dancing the soles off their shoes just like they used to do at dear old Braggy High. There was another celebrity among the guests--Leon Guerian—who is now a professional basketball player. His cute little wife, (the former Betty Hicks) leads the cheering section. A professional hair stylist was the next to arrive. It was Linda Huffman. Linda recently presided over the World Wide Hairdressers' Convention. She is one of the best known hairdressers in the world. Another one of the vuests, Miss Mary Kaye Gill, arrived. She has made quite a name for herself in the world of art; in fact she painted the murals on the wall of the nightclub. She also owns a museum in Monte Carlo. The next guest to enter was Larry Green. He entered wearing a jazzy outfit. It seems he has replaced Dewey Phillips on Pop Shop and can be 3een everyday on television. He is the top disc jockey in the nation. Dixie Smith entered wearing a royal nursing outfit. Remember Princess Grace Kelley? Well, Dixie is Princess Grace's GRANDAUGHTER'S nurse. My, how time flies I Of the old crowd, Curtis Darnell and Rubenia White are the only guests who have remained in Braggadocio. Curt is the Manager of several successful filling stations. H® leaves Bean at home but she doesn't care because she is busy taking care of their three children. Music for the celebration was provided by JoRe Coppage who is now the wife of a successful lawyer. She is even a better pianist than she was when we knew her at Brargy. She is very happy and teaches piano. After the celebration the seniors all agreed they had had a wonderful time. Practically in unison they said, We simply must do it again some time; 35 JUNIORS OFFICERS Pergy Strode—Secretary Charles Grinstead--President Dave Cranford--Vice President Wanda Ward--Treasurer Colors Pink and Black Evelyn Cecil Motto Make your best better.
