THE EAGLET High School Gymnasium Tradition tells us that school days are the happiest period of one’s life. With this in mind we have compiled this bookto show our high school life and spirit a i1-- is. We will consider our efforts successful if the turning of these pages in after years will bring the laughter and tears of fond reminiscence. Home Ecomomics Building and Music Room 2 Miss Valerie Hayes Annual Queen Dedication It is with great pride and pleasure that we of the Eaglet staff dedicate this, the 1956 issue of The Eaglet, to Mr. James E. Arnold. He has in the past years shown us the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship, not only in sports, but also in actual life. Gloria Horton wills her interest in Caruthersville to Sue Bryant and her starry-eyed look when the name Don is mentioned to JoRe Coppage. Peggy Huffman leaves her bookkeeping ability to Linda Huffman and Rubenia White. Jerry Riggs leaves his curls and his hygiene book to -Charles Simmons. 16 Joe Lon Scott leaves his vocal qualities to Larry Green hoping he will become another Eddie Fisher. Douglas Worley wills his ability to torment girls and teachers to Earl Martin Coppage who already does pretty well at it. Ronnie Whitfield leaves his left field position on the softball dia- mond to John Cunningham. Watch all the high flies, John. To Linda Huffman, who really doesn't need them at all, Sandra Hayes leaves her freckle cream and cotton picking bonnet. To Otis Fay Lack, Charles Long leaves his intelligent teleohone con- versations with girls. Raymond Inman leaves his chewing gum to Jerry Alexander. Jerry, you will find it under the study hall table. Helen Clayton leaves her love for calisthenics in Physical Education to Mary Kaye Gill who is always right in there pitching. Gary Bruton wills his athletic ability and his mischievousness to Leon Geurian. He would also like to leave his cue stick to Curt Darnell. L. C. White wills his ability to get into trouble without doing any- thing and his ability to make girls swoon to Ethyle Johnson. Dollie Curtis leaves her ability to lose weight fast to Larry Green and her beautiful long hair to Doris Riggs who, by the way, is never seen in the beauty salon having her hair cut. Harvey Ray Gill wills his miraculous way of keeping his mouth shut to Sue Bryant. Jimmy George leaves his M.D. degree and his medical advice for hypo- chondriacs to Suzanne Lewis who will probably some day find use for this degree. Joe Van Olree leaves his scholastic standing to Charles Simmons and Billy Pirtle. Valerie Hayes would like to leave her jitterbugging ability and wise- cracks to Rubenia White. We hope Bean keeps things as lively as Val did. O'Neal McLemore leaves his height to Marian Shelton and his special driving ability to A. D. Baker. To Sue Bryant, Jean Landrum leaves her love for out-of-town boys. Walter Crain leaves his fondness for girls to Jerry Alexander. Mary Nell Tilmon wills her love for sports to Nancy Lemen. Cathryn Watkins leaves her love letters to Suzanne Lewis. Melba Stanfill leaves her love for Joes to Jo Re Coppage. Bonnie Ward wills her quiet ways to Dixie Smith. To the Junior Class, we will all our old books. Will you please erase all the pencil marks so we won't have to come back next year and pay our book fines. To the Seventh Grade, we leave Mr. James Arnold, who has a few more gray hairs now than he did before we came into his life. Seriously though, we wish to thank the entire faculty for their kind understanding and co-operation in seeing us through our high school years. 17 Home Room Mothers: Mrs. Green Mrs. Bryant Colors: Brown and Yellow Flower: Yellow Rose Motto: United we stand; divided we fall. This total was too large for one class so the class was divided into two rooms. Mrs. Carl M. Webb and Mrs. George W. Horton were their teachers. Now, nine years later, there is a total of 35 members in the Freshmen Class. This being their first year in high school we can only wonder if this total will be increased when they graduate. 25 •. We know the staff will work just as hard next year, and if anyone has any suggestions which will tend to improve next year’s annual, don't hesitate to let them be known. Finally, we sincerely hope these pages will mellow and become a sentimental treasure in the years to come.
