We met with Mrs. Speer, our sponsor, and elected class officers. We played games in the gym. After this social hour we went out to the athletic field and were surprised to see our parents playing softball. It was hard to tell which event offered the most fun----the picnic or the ball game. Our home room mothers are Mrs. Frank Grlnstead and Mrs. Chester White. We are looking forward to next year when we will be In high school• As students of the Eighth Grade, we want to thank Mrs. Speer for being so helpful, kind, and patient with us. Since cotton vacation, we have a new sponsor, ?£rs. Caleb Davis, Jr. Norma Lafferty was our carnival queen candidate who was very pretty. She wore a black gown with a corsage of pink Chrysanthemums. Bobby 3ryant was her escort. We had the pop-corn stand and the pro- ceeds were $38.78. Mrs. Claude Landrum Is our room mother. GirLs Gas etba . . G sketb iL In'a.ck TeaLiA CALENDAR '50 '49 This year we were given two whole days to celebrate Thanksgiving! In- stead of coming back to school with one roll of Turns as they did last year —we brought back two rolls. Thursday evening, December 22, a Christmas program was presented to the public by primary and high school students. Several musical selections were presented by therythmn band and the grade school students did one or two selections. High school musical selections were: Boys' Glee Club. Girls' Glee Club Mixed Chorus.... Thomas Bruton... Pat Hart......... Patsy Reeves.... .........The Magi .....Good Tidings .......Holy Night ........Holy City .Cantique de Noel Little Lord Jesus The play, Dickens' Christmas Carols, was co-directed by Mrs. Carrie Speer and Miss Beulah Huffman. Light refreshments were served to the group by Mrs. Speer at her home. Afterwards the carolers went to Hayti where rs. Adcock served 9 buffet supper. Donations (414.65) were sent to the Crippled Children's Home in St. Louis, Mo. Braggy girls played eleven scheduled basketball games during the sea- son including an alumni game. The squad entered four tournaments. In the Kennett Tournament they were defeated in their first game by Deering. In the Wardell Tournament theydefeated Hayti but lost second place to Holland. At the play off for third, Braggy was defeated by Brosley. The team enter- ed the county contest held at Caruthersville only to be defeated by Hayti. Braggy entered the Cooter Invitational Tournament where they defeated Cooter, lost second place to Holland and third place to Steele. 'This was the last game of the season and though none of the girls felt too good about it there were no nervous breakdowns. The Braggy boys played sixteen scheduled games this season including an alumni game. The boys won eight games, lost two by one point, two by two points, and one by three points. The basketball boys entered two tour- naments. The County Tournament at Caruthersville and the Sub-District Tournament at Senath. During the County Tournament at Caruthersville the boys lost their first game to Deering, the champions of the tournament. The boys were rather disappointed as they had beaten Deering twice previ- ously. During the Sub-Regional Tournament at Senath the boys defeated Hornersville but were later defeated by Holcomb. On January 15, Dolores Sides was crowned Basketball Queen of 49-'50 by Thomas Bruton. Attendants and tneir escorts were: Francis Blayloc , escorted oy James Blaylock, and Patsy Reeves, escorted by LaDrew Rudkin, captain of the visiting team, 3ragg City. On March 10, there was a party given at the SEMO Theater at Steele, Missouri for the basketball girls and boys. Tills ended the season. The Senior play, Everything ?appens To Us, under the direction of Mrs. Carrie Speer, was presented April 7, 1 50. Members of the cast were: J. A. The plot concerned the lively goings-on of the Ross family. The Bacculaureate service was held on May 21, at the high school gym- nasium. Commencement exercises were held Thursday evening. May 25. Diplomas were presented to both the eighth and twelfth grades. The Senior robes were gray with gold and purple tassels. Junior-Senior Trip The event most looked-forward-to Is the Junior-Senior trip which will end the 49-'50 school year. The route chosen will go through Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Points of interest along the route to New Orleans will be Vicksburg, Natchez, and Baton Rouge. At Baton Rouge we will visit the capitol building. Two nights and one day of the five day trip will be spent in New Orleans. Here we will see the old cemetery, the French Quarters and the famous Saint Louis Cathedral. On the return trip we will stop at Lake Ponchartrlan where we re hoping to use our bathing suits. After the students get the teachers to leave the Lake we'll drive along the Gulf to the Jefferson Davis Shrine Beauvoir House. On the re- turn trip we will visit Jackson, the capitol of Miss. We will see both the Old and New Capitol buildings. From Jackson we will drive to Memphis and then home. Lech class had a concession and of course, their lovely queen candidate and escort wno are shown in the above picture. Standing left to right in the picture; Norma Lafferty, Betty Ann Grinsteed, Anna Jean Tllmon, Lavern Pullam, Nancy Pate, Patsy Reeves, Gorden Crowe, Charles Watkins, Ihomss Bruton, Sonny DeBakey, James Riggs, Bobby Pullam, and Bobby Bryant. Ihe crown bearor was Dottle Lou Long. Seated is Dolores Sloes, Who was crowned '’Carnival ueen of f49- 50n by the rotiring queen, Kiss Patsy Reeves. Dolores wore a lovely pale pink, taffeta formal and carried a bouquet of huge white chrysanthemums. Total profit made by each class is as follows: Seniors, $200.29; Juniors, 144.53; Sophomore, $198.80; Freshman, $64.49; Seventh Grade, $38.78; Eighth Grade, $177.65. Total profit of the evening was $703.34.
