Class History The history of the Class of 1983 goes back to the year of 1971. Our 1st year began in the basement of the old church with ten youngsters under the instruction of Mrs. Pearl Kauk. These students were Roy Baumann, Sandy Comes, Julie Dugan, Stewart Eliason, Tom Fagan, Shirley McCollum, Robert Mendenhall, Julie Rouns, Rollie Schlepp, and Randy Sherping. Our 2nd grade year saw us moving into the school to continue our education with the class split between Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. Larson. Robert Mendenhall decided to move on and Robert Rouns decided he didn’t like the 3rd grade and decided to stay in 2nd another year. In third grade the class came together in Mrs. Dyer’s room. Melody Stubbs of Conrad and Holly Buchfink of Hardin came and David Long also joined us from the 3rd grade the previous year. On our way to the fourth grade and Mrs. Larson, we lost Holly and Melody. We added a southern belle named Diana Wills for a short time and added two permanent additions. They were Marie Carter and Lorran Burdick, who was the only one in the 3rd grade and decided to have some company and moved up to the fourth. In the fifth grade we met Mrs. Bauma. Two of our long-time classmates left us. They were Sandy and Randy. Our numbers stayed the same in the sixth grade as we divided between Mrs. Bauma and Mrs. Keith. During the year we were very saddened at the sudden death of our friend and classmate David Long. Mrs. Keith awaited us in Jr. High and our numbers again increased with Marcy Marshall from the Yaak, Cindy Payant from Helena, and Tina Speed from Libby. Eighth grade graduation was to be the biggest class we ever had. We added Karen Weikum, Charles Young, Michelle Lamma, and Leni Kenelty, making us 15 strong going into high school. But on opening day of our freshman year, Karen, Charles and Roy Baumann left us. As Sophomores we again decreased in numbers, losing Marcy and Michelle. Our Junior year we lost two long-time classmates, Rollie and Robert. We also had a one year addition named Chifumi Kida, a foreign exchange student from Japan. Now in the year of 1983, we graduate nine students strong. We have with us two exchange students this year, Ignacio Inglessis for Venezuela and Jarkko Makela from Finland. The rest of the seniors of 1983 are: Lorran B., Marie C., Tom F., Ignacio I., Jarkko M., Leni K., Julie (Dugan) Orcutt, Julie R., and Tina S. The seniors all of look forward to the challenges ahead as they leave the halls of B.H.S.
