President’s Message Honored guests, parents, teachers, and friends: Roughly 18 years ago, we the members of the class of 1974 were first exposed to the world around us. This first world probably included cribs, diapers, and baby-bottles. As we grew, both mentally and physically, our worlds were extended to the limits of our houses and beyond. When our parents gave us the basic knowledge we needed, which is the first step toward success, we graduated from sand-box and moved into our first formal school education. In the first grade, our worlds were expanded to include Dick, Sally, Spot, and our first glimpses at this mathe- matical world. As we progressed, we learned such complexities as grammar, fractions, history, and geography. By now our world also included sports and Jr. High Dances for entertainment. We then left this plateau by graduating from the eighth grade and started climbing the foothills to the mountain of success. Along the path we came across the business letters of typing, the medulla oblongatas of biology, the poetry and literature of American English, and the complexities of this bureaucracy in Government class. These obstacles at times seemed to turn the path into an unscalable cliff on the face of Mount Everest. We always looked forward to the summit, our graduation, with great hope and expectations. We are now standing here with our diplomas in our hands, which is the symbol for the achievement of the goal we set for ourselves several years ago. We must now set a new goal, the success we all hope for; The success our parents hoped for when they taught us to take our first step; The success the citizens hoped for when they paid their taxes to support our schools; The success our teachers hoped for when they gave us the knowledge we needed; and the success our School Board and Administration hoped for when they set down the rules and regulations to see that our schools ran smoothly. Success has a different connotation for nearly every person. Some of the common goals set by the members of our class to achieve success include excelling in farming, various technical trades, or business. I represent the feelings of the entire class in bidding farewell and in expressing sincere gratitude to the parents, tax-payers, faculty, School Board, and Administration. Although we now stand alone, we must excell in our chosen fields so we don't disappoint these people who have shown their trust in us by awarding us our diplomas. I hope we may live throughout our lives by our class motto: What we are to be, we are now becoming. 8
