PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Parents, Teachers, and Friends, Graduation is traditionally a time for reminiscing and expressing one's gratitude. But, that is not what I want to do. My reason for not telling what our school years have meant to us is not to detract from their importance, but because I feel that we each have our own memories and we each should express them ourselves. My reason for not expressing our gratitude is not because we do not owe a tremendous debt to all who have helped us along the way, but because I feel our actions speak louder than words. We can best express our appreciation by living in such a way that we will make those who have helped us proud of the part they played in our success. I want to take the opportunity to offer a challenge to all who haven't graduated. I challenge you to better everything we have done. When we were Sophomores, we read a story that said that nothing has been done that can't be improved. There isn't a record set that can't and won't be broken. There isn't a book written or a formula derived that can't be expanded, explained, or disproven. I challenge you undergraduates to break the records and expand the knowledge. It may seem that I am telling you to show disrespect for your elders, but I am not. Why shouldn't you know more than your ancestors? You have all their knowledge from which to learn. For this reason I offer you another challenge, learn as much as possible from everyone you meet. To those who have already graduated I want to say, don't give up the fight. It's not too late for us. We just got in the game to don't ask to be pulled yet. That isn't the final whistle you hear. It's just to announce that new players are on the team. What can we do to make the world a better place in which to live? Let's try lighting a few candles and see if the world really if brighter. Joe McLean 12
