Fowler, Through our four years of high school your friendship and guidance have been inspiring. You have been a loy- alfriend to every student and as our teacher you have labored diligently for the good of the school. Therefore, we believe whole- heartedly that this honor belongs to you. ' a A good education is a requirement of a free man, Itis the kind of education which must be available to men and women who love freedom and who wish to be free. It isa broad liberal education which frees man from ignorance, superstition, demagoguery, the inability to think, and the fears which grow out of these. It is the type of educa- tion which continues throughout life. Once begun it never ceases. 'wwf- 'ffl-Q. J'- t . .f . R .. ' .Q-. -'L-fe 3. L 3. .- 6' y , f fl, 6, !,g..:fp, O. . This never-to-be forgotten hour is dedicated to you, our parents and friends, asa token of gratitude and appreciation. To us it is something which is precious, personal and ever- lasting, something to be cherished through the years to come. As we come to the end of our fourth year of educational experience, we are grateful that we live in such a prosperous country and for the co -operation of the many teachers, our parents, the Board of Education and the many friends who have helped us across this high hill. I wish to ta ke this opportunity to express my thanks on behalf of our class to the many who have made this graduation possible. We have had the great privilege and the opportunity to widen our field of knowledge. Knowledge is the only thing that makes possible the elemination of that great sense of un- certainty surrounding the world today. I am proud to speak these words that carry with them from every member of this class, a cordial welcome to these exercises tonight. flair? 114-RQ, JAMES ISLIMQ WI-I TE Custodian Scdwlg MRS, RUTH PRATT, Assistant Cook: MRS, ANNA KAUK, Chief Cook Sponsored by KELLOGG IMP. They were Grace Severson, Kathleen Matthys, Louise Mumm, Betty Thompson, Carol Rabe, Janette Mowbray, Harry Severson, and Jerry Stenjhem. The following year we returned to B. H. S. discovering we had lost a former class- mate, Jerry Stenjhem, who moved to North Dakota. Sandra Davison, from Highwood, joined our class and filled in the vacant desk left by Jerry Stenjhem. A few months later Carol Rabe left for California, decreasing the enrollment to eight students. In our Junior year we started out with eight students and neither lost nor gained any during the year. Our last year has finally arrived, and now we are a group of mighty Seniors. Sandra Davison did not retum for her Senior year after her marriage to Tom Gollehon, who is working at Pete's Texaco. Late in November Betty Thompson quit school to become the wife of Robert Reiquam, a student at the Montana State College at Bozeman. 79 The other day just before I boarded a private plane on leave from Washington where l was stationed in the Women's Air Force, I began to wonder about what the class of '55 was doing to keep themselves busy for the past ten years. When I reached San Fransico, California, where I stopped to receive further infor- mation, I was surprised to find Janette Mowbray at the airport waiting for her plane to Poughkeepsie, New York. She informed me that she was a professional Physical Educa- tion Teacher at Vassar. During our conversation we began to talk about our old classmates. She told me that she heard from Grace Severson a few weeks ago. She is now a registered nurse in Hono- lulu. After her marriage in June she plans to make her permanent home there, As we were talking we overheard some airline passengers say that Harry Severson has just com- pleted the construction of a large and fascinating University in France. They also men- tioned some of the other buildings he had constructed, Janette said she also heard from a former classmate, Kathleen Matthys who is now the private secretary for the head office of the Standard Oil Company of Missouri. Then I heard the voice over the loud speaker system saying her plane was ready to leave so must say farewell. s 0-40fQ,ae Sponsored by I-lENNESSY IJUMBER COMPANY, Conrad 6la4470eZZ The Senior Class being of sound mind do hereby will their following talents and abilities to the underclassmen and saddened faculty. To the Juniors our excellent conduct in the study hall. They may need it. To the Sophomores we leave our ability to get assignments in - just in time. To the Freshmen we will our example of good behavior which we have tried to set for them. To the coming Freshmen our ability to feel important at all times. They might need it. To the teachers the patience to cope with them. Harry Severson wills his ability in basketball to Jerry Zimbelman and his talent in track to Roy Coghill. Louise Mumm leaves to Cecelia Rodriguez the talent and ability to get through her Senior year. Kathleen Matthys wills her ability in Bookkeeping to whomever wishes to use it. Grace Severson wills her ability to sleep inmschool to Laura Mumm. Janette Mowbray wills her ability to sneak down to the lunchroom early to Donna White, Deanna Dyer, and Sylvia Freeman. Louise Mumm and Kathleen Matthys leave their speed in Shorthand to Laura Mumm and Cecelia Rodriguez, They don't want to be bothered with it when working.
