We, the S emo: sake this oppommimy to dedicaie this annum to a iotmet itiend and gr aduate oi the dass of 49, Wesky . Donam 1 SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE After having lived and worked with the students of the Near East for a year, I am impressed with the opportunities of American youth to get an education, and to do something with it after you have finish ed your formal.schooling. In knowledge of the arts, the languages, and to some extent, in the sciences, their accomplishments are on a high level. Theirs is an old culture and an old civilization. But they believe, and rightly so, that the youth of America has the great- est opportunity in the world to receive and use an education. How they beg for a chance to come to our country to study! If students from other lands regard your opportunities as priceless, shouldn't more of you avail yourselves of a higher and better education? As I have often told you, education should be an endless process. High school and college courses can only at best, point the way to more work to be done. No education is terminal it is rather a matter of continious growth.--Morgan J. Sherlock PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE On behalf of my classmates and myself, I wish to welcome you to the commencement exercises of the Class of 1953. I would like to thank my classmates for electing me president of this class for the past year. This I believe. I believe in God and in freedom of religion. Our Country was founded on freedom of religion, the right to worship in the church of one's choice. The right to worship as you believe is an important part of what makes our country what it is today. I believe in a strong democratic form government. I believe that America is different from any other nation on earth, This is why. The men who cut the pattern for Americans a century and three-quarters ago, held a deep conviction that men--all men--are born with qualities that give them a unique status. The simple fact of man's being born a human being, they felt, marks him as the most important thing God ever created--and entitles him to a certain dignity and to se1f-re- spect. They believed that certain God-given, not men-given, rights-- each being free to live,to be free, to build his life without the handicap of any interference that can be avoided. It is the secret of Hthat somethingn which stamped Americans as Americans. Some call it individual initiative, others simply Uback- bone.W But whatever it is called it is a precious ingredient in our national character--one which we must not lose. I believe in our educational system that seeks to develop a pro- gram that is close to the parents, not dominated by either religionor state. In some countries of today youth is taught to believe what their leader believes. I believe people should be taught to think for themselves as an individual, not in mass, to develop their own minds not depress them. With the concepts of self-government and individual freedom now threatened more than ever before in the history of Western Civilization, it becomes the first duty of all thoughtful people to improve our educational system everywhere and to extend to all of our citizens equal opportunity for self government. I believe in these three organizations, the Church, our Demo- cractic Government and Free Educational System working in their own field for the benefit of all the people as a whole.--Leah Oien Sponsored by THE COFFEE CUP CAFE Salam! 150 rd Left to right: Albert Schlepp, Ed- ward Mowbray, School Trustees, Morgan J. We thought we knew 'most everything But soon found out, 'tis true, The things we didn't know were lots, And what we knew were few. The next year we were Sophomores, We sure did take the cake, But in about 3 weeks of school We knew we'd met our fate. We couldn't run the teachers or regulate the classes And when vacation came, We Sure were happy lads and lasses. And in our Junior year of school We came to Brady High We'd all made up our minds, That we would have to do or die. The way was difficult and hard And not all play 'tis true, But not all work you may be sure, 'Cause we had some fun. too. And now we all are Seniors And our journey's almost o' er And many thoughts will crowd Our minds as we pass on thru the door. Of High School days, of teachers, Of classmates and our friends, And tho' we hate to say good-bye, All things must have an end. So in the future years of life The memories fond and dear, . Of High School Days and nights remain, Forever bright and clear. And now dear Brady High School, I give this toast to you, May future classes always be, Loyal, staunch, and true. ev, Delories, Leah, Maryln Sponsored by ROSE'S DRUG If ww H ki 'gf ,544 , kg w,-QNW' ,, -wh' ' mnnnlui DELORIES B. They were as follows, Leah Oien, Beverly Matthys, Delories Mumm, Jack Stenjhem, Patsy Robinson, Ioan Tempel, Leonard Mumm, Gordon Bueling, and Loretta Freeman. - In our Sophomore year, Marilyn Turnquist joined us from Columbia Falls, Montana. Leonard Mumm quit in the spring of the year to devote full time to his farm. In our Junior year we felt we had lost something. . . Yes---we had lost three more members of the class. Ioan Tempel moved to Burlington, Washington, Patsy Robinson left for Conrad, Montana, and Loretta Freeman joined the Senior Class to graduate in three years. AH, Seniors at last ! ! ! Our class roll was again diminished, this time it left but four girls. The class officers, Leah Oien, President: Beverly Matthys, Vice President, Delories Mumm, Secretary, and Marilyn Turnquist, Class representive. As we march down the Halls of Brady Hi for the last time on May 20, 1953 our hearts are filled with tears of both sorrow and joy for we can not help think of the times we've had in Brady Hi, but we are also thinking of the future and what it holds for us. We, the Senior Class of 1953, in four individual and distinct parts, being about to pass out of the sphere of education, with full- possessed and crammed minds, with a well trained memory and superhuman understanding will make and publish this, our last will and testament. We, the Senior Class, will our way with the teachers to the Junior Class. We will our ability to get Mr. Fowler off on a tangent to the Sophomore Class and may they pro- fit by it. We will all the fun and devilment of our high school nights and our bad study hall habits to the Freshmen. To the future Freshmen we will our ability to survive through all four years of High School. We will our ability to be different to the Junior Class. We also will them our desks Qmay they not be too crowdedj. We will all the used gum, gum wrappers, funny books, and love magazines to anyone who wants to waste time. We will our ability to cook to the four bachelor teachers and may they live long. Beverly Matthys leaves her ability to argue with the teachers to anyone who wants to take the risk. Marilyn Turnquist bequeaths her height to Joan Crane and may she profit by it. QMore than Marilyn didj Delories Mumm wills her ability to skip school to Avis Stockstad and may she do it more secretly than Delories did. Leah Oien wills her first period nap to anyone who had trouble getting in early the night before. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, The Senior Class of 1953, to this last will and testament, hereunto set their hands and seal this 28th day of May, A. D. 1953. Signed and declared the last will of the Class of 153 by the Senior Class of '53, in the presence of all members. LOOK AT ME IN '63 Ten years have gone by since the Halls of Brady Hi has last seen the Class of '53. Beverly seems to be doing quite well as head bookkeeper at Macy's of New York. Between keeping her staff in line and attending cocktail parties about town she's quite a busy young woman. Delories has just started work as secretary to the new ambassador to France. Reports are al- ready coming in from gay Parie, it seems she's driving the frenchmen wild. We wish Delories all the luck on her new job. Marilyn reveals that she is now private nurse to Mario Lanza who has laryngitis. She seems very thrilled even though he can't sing to her. Leah has just been promoted to buyer for Lord 8: Taylor. She says her first trip will be to Paris visiting the wholesalers there. She also plans to visit her old classmate Delories Mumm. 4.
