A vf- 'Zi The Rainmaker ln October, Bradley continued its Theater Season with N. Richard Nash's, THE RAINMAKER. The play takes place in a southwestern state, on a summer day in a time of drought. As the audience is introduced to the Curry family it becomes evident that the plant life is not the only thing withering. The hopes and dreams of several members of the family are also drying up and the rainmaker, Starbuck, arrives in time to give this family the boost it needs. In this production the cast included a faculty member as well as Bradley students. The Curry family was excellently portrayed by Dr. Brendan Liddell, John Hanson, Tim Clue, and Margie Kestner. Starbuck, the rainmaker, was portrayed wonderfully by Brad Johansen. Other members of the cast were Jeff Laird, Scott Beecham, Greg Dolph and musician Pat Bensing. This play was directed by Bradley's Theater professor Dr. Collings J. Bell and the show stunned audiences from October 15 through October 24. Once again the sets were designed by Brent Fleming and the Costumer was Dorothy Johnson. Assistants to the Directors were Donna Garzino and Rebecca Schreiber. Bradley's production of THE RAINMAKER was a refreshing, unique addition to the Bradley Theater Season and added a special touch to the Parent's Weekend Activities. Q... 5 y fa 'I -. 1 11 1213 rl lx. Doolittle and chorus remind the audience that With a Little Bit of Luck you can get anything you want The part of Doolittle was played by David Houghtaling ltopl Eliza, Kandiss Bowen, tells Freddy Eynsford-Hill, Chris Henderson, that she wants more than talk. My Fair Lady Smashing was the word many peo- ple used to describe the Bradley Universi- ty production of the Lerner and Loewe musical MY FAIR LADY. The produc- tion, which opened the Bradley Theater Season ran for eight performances from Sept. 3 through Sept. 12. Under the di- rection of Dr. Richard Marriott, a cast of more than 25 spent the entire month of August transforming the Meyer Jacobs Theater into early twentieth century Lon- don. Ron Claypool was wonderful as Prof. Henry Higgins and Kandiss Bowen was enchanting as Eliza Doolittle. The musical depicts the story of a flower girl, who is transformed into a lady with the help of an English professor. The musical num- bers were beautifully choreographed by Paula Petrini and solidly held together under the direction of Molly McCullough. Brent and Deann Fleming designed the lavish scenery which added the finishing touch to a wonderful production. MY FAIR LADY was a monumental show and its success was due to the com- bined efforts of many people. The musi- cal was a loverly way to open the 1982-1983 Bradley Theater Season.

'. f -jr -5f'J-,M-Q ndrocles nd The Lion As the Holiday Season descended upon Bradley University the Theater Department presented the play, Androcles and the Lion, a play by Aurand Harris. The play was written in the style of Commedia Dell' Arte and incorporates music and dance with the drama. This Bradley production was directed by Dr. Richard Marriott and many children and adults were charmed by the production which ran from November 19 through December 5. Androcles and the Lion is a simple story revolving around the friendship of Androcles, a slave and a lion. The show had a cast of almost twenty five people including several children. Julia Escher portrayed Androcles the slave and Ron Claypool played her master, Pantolone. Other cast members included Mary Alice Kelly, Andrew Tetzlaff, Michael Fancher, and Dawn Acheson. The star of Androcles and the Lion was David Houghtalin in the part of the Lion. Houghtaling charmed and entertained every- one as the King of the Jungle. Working on the production staff were Molly McCullough, who worked on coordinating the music with the play and Paula Petrini who designed the dance sequences. The Costumes were made by Dorothy Johnson and the cast designed their own make up. This production used Michael Dwyer as set designer and Brent Flem- ing as Lighting and Technical designer. The music used in this production was written by Glenn Mack. Androcles and the Lion charmed audiences in the Hart- mann Center for the Performing Arts for eight performances. The play by Aurand Harris was entertaining for children and adults alike and although it was only about an hour in length it was a delightful holiday treat for many. The mixture of music, drama and dance added a special touch to the production.
