The Right To Dissent In 0wn Wa Exemplified S -,alq11'4' I-F gnu-t 'l 9 A . Ll.-l 4 5 .4-'15-if ydlt' :'i:A -..mil With the many national issues stir- ring the campuses this year Lecture Arts appropriately engaged speak- ers such as Abbie Hoffman, David Suskind, and Bill Russell, in an ef- fort to provide an opportunity for Bradley students to hear varied philosophies which are the driving forces in the nation today. Hoff- man is one of the seven on trial in Chicago as a result of the distur- bances at the Democratic Conven- tion in 1968. His talk was cut short by a stink bomb thrown in the fieldhouse. The international news commentator, David Suskind, will not soon forget the panel discus- sion held here on the Viet Nam War. It was obviously difficult for the panel of two professors, three campus leaders, and Mr. Suskind to stay within the limits, since the discussions ranged from the mor- atorium to Bobby Seale. Bill Rus- sell, former player-coach of the Boston Celtics, impressed it upon the Bradley audience that there is essentially nothing wrong with prejudice, it is the person's reac- tion to it that is the evil of it. He spoke as a citizen, rather than a former basketball player, and warned that if the society does not change soon it will be too late. BELOW LEFT: The panel included: Dr. Charles Simmons, head of the history department, Pete Erlinder, David Suskind, Horace jones, Dr. jerome Manheim, dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Cary Roberts. LEFT: Bill Russell strided across the fieldhouse floor during his talk on prejudice and society.
