Lynch THE PRESIDENT Like all other college year books, The Polyscope records the main events of an academic year. And yet no individual or or- ganization mentioned or pictured in this vol- ume can afford to be staticg the record here portrayed is not complete. Highly commend- able as this graphic report is, we are expecting all of the characters included to be constantly mobolized under the caption Forward, hav- ing first selected worthy objectives. vidae W,

THE DEANS DEAN OF WOMEN Your theme for The Polyscope of 1940 is Forward You are already familiar with the practical application of this work in your daily lives at college. Perhaps some of you may have already shown evidence of genius along certain lines but industry will improve your progress. If you have not genius, as is the case with most of us, industry will take its place. In the experiences which lie before you as college men and women when you leave Bradley College, may you cultivate the habit of industry, working without haste but also without rest. No better fortune can be desired for you, than that you approach the perplexing problems of the present day with the slogan Forward, that is, with the spirit of improvement and untiring OWJLQJ DEAN OF MEN As I write, two quotations from recent read- endeavor. ing serve to remind me of the importance of our common educational undertaking. The quotations are: Social failure and suc- cess in collegiate society have nothing to do with reality unless one can give them their proper im- portance. The highest grades in scholastic studies are worthless unless they are properly integrated into the business of living. it :fi 25: Without the proper perspective, the wisest of men is the veriest fool. The second quotation is: One of the prime fundamentals of higher education is that increase of balanced judgment which distinguishes the truly educated man from the mass. Far beyond any claim of vocational efficiency this is the foundation of a college education. As the graduating class of this year prepares to leave the halls, my major hope for them is that they have obtained to these ideals through the educational process of the years. civffjfgwfgaf
