“
Life flows around you One day flows into another with people, places and happenings slipping by. One minute it's autumn and ... school. You just can't shake that summer laziness and everyone's griping about their schedule. The halls are more crowded than ever. People are still waiting to get into E Building. Tickets for the first football game are $1.25! Inflation strikes again! The band strikes up and the Bears roar onto the field while the student section huris mess around cheers through the air. Suddenly, it hits you. Another year for good 'ole BCHS has begun. Ik So you're into it now, high school kid, 1974-75. It's the beginning for freshmen and the beginning of the end for seniors. Bradley's big, 2300 strong. Personalities cross, recross, separate and combine. Sometimes, caught in the middle the real purpose of school is forgotten—academics. Social Science-is more history re- peating itself or are more students repeating history? English—four years are re- quired-no less. Math—lots of new faces were seen there this year. The one ques- tion of a Chemistry student, “When will the Science Department be blown up? After much debate. Building Trades begin a house. 'Readin', 'ritin' and 'rithmatic are alive and well at Bradley Central. Competition. It's really the root of all high school activities, isn't it? Sports play a major role. You're running for the touch- down. You see daylight ahead—only ten more yards ... and then BAM! You're cut down from behind. You struggle for a boy or girlfriend. You struggle to keep them. Out of many only a few are chosen as for the varsity cheerleading squad. More often than not you hit a solid barrier and you're beaten. All you can do is try. 7 No matter where you turn at Bradley something is going on. From talking, laughing and milling about in the halls between classes to eating during lunch people are busily leading their own lives or maybe being led by others. Of course, teachers are never too busy to get into whatever is happening, no matter how strange it may be. Some one is always taking a field trip. To keep up you have to move on. Sometimes you neec 10 Giving seems to be a large part of Miss Eugenia Rodger's life—Giving of herself and her wealth of knowledge to the stu- dents of Bradley High and to the Cleve- land Community. Miss Rodgers began her teaching career at Bradley immedi- ately after obtaining her BA from the University of Chattanooga and her M.Ph. from the University of Wisconsin. Dur- ing her many dedicated years at Bradley she has taught American History, Medi- eval History, Bible, Psychology and Sociol- ogy and Spanish I II. The school's news- paper The Trumpeter was initiated and sponsored for many years by her. She chap eroned many girls' basketball trips and was in strumental in arranging senior class trips. During Bradley's growing years, she worked tirelessly for community support of new and adequate faci lities. She has also managed to teach a Sunday School Class and sponsor a Girl Scout Troupe. It's time we gave something back. To Miss Eugenia Rodgers, for her many services to Bradley Central High School, we dedicate the 1974-75 Ocoeean. May this book preserve, for future generations some of the qualities of character, leadership and genuine teaching ability which she epitomizes. FEATURES School life is not all books and studies. Some of it is special. Seeing a very dear friend crowned Homecoming Queen or winning Best Play after having worked two long, hard months for that very honor-there are just no words to express how you feel at those moments. Those mo- ments make all the disappointments bearable and all the dull moments easier to live through. One part of school is special and some people and events are featured ... 17 Homecoming 1974 October 4, 1974—Homecoming. The air was crisp and cold. Excitement mounted as the court came across the field, sa- luted by the ROTC cadets. The queen is ... Cathy Smith. As the band breaks into The Entertainer Cathy is crowned, the traditional kiss bestowed. Despite a dis- heartening game loss to Red Bank, the annual Homecoming Dance followed thereafter with plenty of music by Street People and plenty of fun to end another Homecoming week. Principal Bill Schultz crowns the queen while flower girl Tasha Keller and crown bearer Rusty Munger look on. Rhonda Brown re- ceived the “Most Photogenic and 1st runner-up awards. Keyoda Hall was 2nd runner-up and Te- resa McConnell was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. From the National Honor Society to the Photography club, they group people with spe- cial talents or interests. Many worthwhile activi- ties such as the Key Club Basketball Tourna- ment and the Thespian's Class Night come from the hard work of indus- trious club members. Without all of Bradley's many student organiza- tions many of the things which make school life enjoyable would be lost. Student Council Serving the student body and faculty with programs of entertainment and interest, the elected representatives of the Student Council work hard. Fashion shows, a fac- ulty tricycle race, and spirit chains for the Bradley Cleveland football game are just a few of the many activities sponsored by this organization. An outstanding Council activity this year was Club Day. All school organizations set up boothes to advertise their club. The day was a tremendous suc- cess. The Council consists of six seniors, five juniors, five sophomores and five freshmen. (picture right) (l-r) (bottom row) Ramsey. Calfee. T. Williams. Ruth T. McConnell. L. A grade average of 93 is needed to gain membership and this average must be main- tained. Projects are un- dertaken in order that two scholarships may be awarded to two out- standing graduating se- niors. There's also plenty of fun with the antics of the newly- elected member's initia- tion. This is truly an honor organization building character, ser- vice, leadership and scholarship. Bachelors Bachelorettes Behind the social life of Bradley Central High School lie the Bachelors and Bachelorettes. They arrange the dances and generally keep the entire school hopping. The primary aim of the FFA is the development of agricultural lead- ership, cooperation, citizenship and patriotism. In the Vocational Agriculture depart- ment at Bradley, students can de- velop supervised work experience in Animal, Plant and Soil Sciences. Courses include such areas of study as Agronomy, Forestry, public speak- ing, agriculture accounting, parlia- mentary procedure and general farm management. Scribes Another year has seemingly blown by. The breeze has settled for awhile and it seems as if we have the rest of our life before us. It won't be long though, before the wind comes again to sweep us on to our prespective destinies. We are growing older—though unconsciously and the foot of time falls as softly as ever. The current of life flows on as smoothly as always- indeed the fuller the current the more noiseless it flows. Children will grow up around us and take our places and those of our friends in the never-end- ing palasade of eternity. These words will fall but memories on the pages of time-once read-once turned, like a book you only read once. Call this chapter For Al- ways and though the words are read; the book tucked away in the universal library of all our lives, let it's meaning last forever. Have the memories grow and be nurtured with the passing of time. Putting the Ocoeean together is a highly com- plicated project, costing thousands of dollars and con- suming many hours of hard work. Senior staff members sell advertisements. Editors organize pictures and lay-outs, while Business managers regulate expenses, jr. Representa- tives observe and assist, anticipating the positions they will hold next year as the heads of the staff. Much photography (taking and processing) is student-oriented. The annual is a student project; the advisor provides support and encour- agement. The frustrations of the staff heads and combined efforts of all who contribute to the yearbook bring a sense of responsibility and a deeper insight into people and the benefits of cooperation. Sledge The Bradley Band The Bradley Band is surely one of Bradley High's proudest achievements. It's music brightens pep rallies and it's ex- cellent half-time shows are a welcome addition to the foot- ball season. Probably the most active of the school organi- zations, the band sponsored money-making projects all during the year to pay for a trip to Florida. They also hosted and participated the Tri-State Band Festival in which they earned top honors. The Bradley Band also participated in the inauguration ceremonies in Nashville for Tennessee's new Governor Ray Blanton. This organization is one of the best-loved of all the Bradley High traditions. Suddenly the finish line was upon us, and the course of our high school years was nearly over. Looking back we can see the changes that have occurred since our freshman year. We started out at Old Bradley, in a delapidated, outmoded building. Some 700 strong in number, we all had homeroom in the auditorium. Thrown together as we were, in that first year we became close. The largest and best class of the 1971-72 year. Then came the new building; large, modem and somehow frightening. Our sophomore year was laced with changes— new building, new policies, and a new spirit. We're the last class of the old. We're leaving and with us go some of the last ties with the Old Bradley. It's off with the old and on with the new for Bradley. As for us, we've passed the finish line and are owning toward the rest of our lives. They had finally made it. They were upperclassmen and every one knew it. They were still second- place on the totem pole to the seniors and so had to try harder. Their cool- ness was evident in whatever they did. This class had some very out- standing individuals—that fact no one can deny. Some cheerleaders, out- standing athletes and exceptional students were juniors. They even won Best Play on Class Night! The year flew by for them and they shouldered more responsibility and were powered by the anticipations of becoming se- niors. Without this class, something would be lacking at B.C.H.S. So we've labeled them the imposters, those who often act more like seniors than se- niors do. fane Adams Terry Adkins Tim Adkins Bobby Arp Benny Alchley Chuck y Alchley Bruce Aulds Melanie Ault man Denise Austin Greg Austin Randall Baine Chip Baker June Baker Ronnie Ballinger Mary Barone Jenny Bates Maxine Bates Roberta Bates Rebecca Bates Beth Baxter Clara Bayless Curtis Beasley Deborah Beaty Pam Beaty Joyce Belcher Geneva Bell Doug Bird Reggie Bishop Kelly Blackford Jerry Blackwell Walter Blackwell Cecil Blalock Debbie Bottoms Alan Bowers Sylia Boyd Gill Brewster Robin Bridger Brenda Brown Cindy Brown Denise Brown Karen Brown Karen Brown Kathy Brown Randy Brown Sheryl Brown Ken Buckner Terrell Bunch Virginia Burgess Debbie Burgner Dennis Burgner Randy Burmaster Mike Burns Jerry Burrell Dan Butcher Myra Cagle Data Caldwell David Calfee Vickie Bowlin Darlene Callahan Vickie Callahan Lynn Campbell Kim Carroll Lisa Carroll Peggy Carroll Tom Carroll Wendall Carroll Donald Cartwright Stephen Cartwright Vicky Carver Rhonda Casotell Kathy Castello Debbie Case Holly Chambers Kay Chastain Patty Cheek Bobby Cissom Barbara (Tabough Ramona Clabough Curtis Clayton Deana Clayton Norma Clements Randy Climer Billy Cochran Diane Cochran Judy Cochran Jeff Cody Charlotte Cofer Jeff Coleman left Conn Alan Conner Charles Cooper Deborah Cooper Diana Cooper Donna Cooper Penny Corbin Carolyn Craig Christine Crawford Donald Couch Debbie Creech Debbie Crittenden Rosemary Crittenden Cherie Cross Patricia Crowder Katy Crumley Kathy Crye |im Crye Tony Cunningham Denise Curtis Emily Dailey Patricia Dale Karen Daniel Curt Davis Dale Davis Doug Davis Rick Davis Sandy Davis Tony Davis Jo Deford Chuck Defriese Penny Denton Wayne Dickert Kathy Dillon Paula Disney Roger Disney Alan Dixon Darlene Dixon Karen Dowdy Cathy Duckett Carla Duckworth Tony Dunn Cherie Dykes Darryll Earls Cheryl Eckstein Tim Edwards Ed Eldredge Larry Ellis Tim Ellis Charles Elrod Tammy Elrod Tim Elrod Jim Ensley Becky Fair k e Fann ieannie Felkner 174 Karen Finnell Debbie Fisk Karen Flowers Terry Floyd Rodney Frazier Sandy Garrett Alan Gaston Phillip Gaston left Geren Delinda German Steven Gibbons Ronald Giles Ray Gobble Steve Golden Ann Goodner Lora Goodwill Daryl Goodwin Judy Gordon Connie Grady Don Graham lean Graham David Green Shirley Green Debbie Griffith Larry Grooms lunior Guthrie Larry Hafley Charles Haire Diane Hall Faye Hall Ronnie Hamilton Lavon Hammond Brenda Hampton Darlene Harper Ian Harper Julie Harris Norman Harris Melinda Hawkins Pam Hawkins Ricky Hawkins Larry Helton Mike Hendrix Nanette Henry Debbie Henson Sherri Hickman Brian Higdon Jeff Higdon Barbara Higgins Tim Higgins Kathy Hixon Judy Hodgson Stanley Holder Joy Holloway Susan Holloway Cheryl Holmes Tish Hooker Doris Hooper Lena Houser Mark Howard Marvin Howard Ricky Huffaker Sheila Hunkapiller Jeannie Hunt Johnny L. Sophomores are now familiar with the way high school works; it seems less like an obstacle course. But this class sometimes goes unnoticed. They are neither as unaccustomed to high school as freshmen nor as sure of themselves as the upperclassmen. Nevertheless, this class is full of outstanding individuals. Many ran headfirst into all school activities and functions and kept a steady pace at the heels of the up- perclassmen. Now they are preparing to leap into their junior year. 180 Debbie Adams Okey Adkins David Alberico Eddie Albomo Maurice Albornoz left AJIen Jeff Anderson Karen Anderson Kaye Arnold Cindy Arthur DeAnn Atchley Dale Ainip Kathy Auberry Linda Bailey Lisa Bain Tony Balinger Gary Baliles Pam Ballinger Dennis Bandy Donna Bandy lulie Bankston Kim Bankston Sandy Barker Cindy Barrett Anthony Bartolo Randy Baxter Elsie Beard Dennis Beaton Mark Beaty Greg Beavers Kathy Beck Sheila Bender Randall Benefield Sandy Benson Randy Bes hears |eff B!a k |immy Blair Ralph Blair Patricia Bledsoe Leonard Bomne Sheila Bomne Darryl Bowling loan Boyd Randy Branam Max Brock Wesley Brooking Jerome Broome Mickey Brown Teresa Brown John Burgess Donna Burgner Clyde Burnette Johnny Burnette Richard Burnette Michael Cabrera Mary Cagle Patricia Cagle Brian Cain Jean Cain Leah Cain Jack Caldwell Judy Calfee Chuck Calhoun Ricky Callahan Darlene Cameron Larry Cameron Mark Cameron Mary Jane Campbell Keith Cannon Scott Cantrell Dennis Carroll Patricia Carroll 181 Tommy Carroll Ricky Carson Danny Cash Sieve Casson Johnny Cartwright Tina Caughron Wilma Caywood Charles Chambers Debra Chancey lohnny Chapman Susie Chapman Randy Chase Connie Chastain Douglas Chastain Sula Chastain Velma Chastain Cinda Cheek Chuck Clark Dale Clabough Steve Clark Melinda Clayton Brenda Clevenger Pam Clevenger Patricia Cloer Bill Cowart David Coffman Leanne Conner Deanna Cooper Ray Cooper Steven Cooper Rodney Cordell Donald Crabtree Ricky Crisp Robin Crisp Becky Cross Calvin Cross Larry Cross Marsha Cross Donna Crowe Thelma Crumley Linda Cunningham Brenda Dailey Susan Dailey Freda Dalton Sheila Dalton Gloria Davis laneen Davis Laura Davis Randall Davis Sharon Davis Tanda Davis Mike Daub Debbie Delaney Iramae Delk Teresa Delk Karen Dempsey Pam Dilbeck Buddy Dills Debbie Dixon Karen Dixon Sheryl Dixon Tracy Dixon David Dobbs Jaylene Dodd Mike Dodd Sandy Dodd Anita Dotson Lisa Douglas Bobby Dowdy Ronald Dowdy Greg Duggan Jane Duggan 182 Mitchell Dunn Stanley Eads Angie Ellioft David Elliott |ana Ellis Ricky Ellis Billy Ensley Sandy Epperson Betty Ervin Tommy Eslinger Vickie Eubanks Jeff Evans Teny Fannin Desiree Farmer Ricky Farris Kelly Finley Diane Finnell Deborah Flowers Eddie Flowers Lynn Floyd Danny Fox Pam Fox Tammy Fox Marjorie Franks Carl Freeman Sheila Callaher Marsha Gaston Margie Gatlin Debbie Gentry Danny George Darlene Gibson DeWayne Gibson Doug Gibson Vanessa Gibson James Gill Sonia Gladson Michal Gobble Ray Gobble Cathy Godfrey Dollie Goins Martha Goins Michael Goins Mitchell Goins Tonya Goins Beth Golden Doug Golden Sandra Graves Angela Gregg Sandy Gregg Arlie Green Ken Green Venus Green Linda Greene David Guinn Dwight Guinn Dale Hall Debbie Hall Gary Hall Gladys Hall Kimitia Hall Vickie Hammond David Hannah Chene Hancock Chris Haney Danny Haney Andrea Harden Brenda Harper Marcia Harris Tim Harris John Harvey Mark Haskins Bevedy Hawkins 183 lames Hembree Joe Hendrix Steve Hensley lack Herron Donna Hester Barry Hewitt April Hickman Connie Hicks Mike Hicks Vicki Hicks Sharon Higdon Tony Hobbs Darlene Hollifield Bucky Holmes Charles Holt Debbie Holt Phil Hooper Debbie Horn David Howard Gene Howard Keith Howard Omar Howard Tom Hughes Sammy Humbard Karen Humberd Susan Humberd Tim Hurst Cathy Hutchins Danny Hutson Penny Hutto Charles Hybarger Kris Hybarger Debbie Ingram Vicki Ivey Darla Jacobs Jerry Jenkins Kenny Jenkins Larry Jenkins Donna Johnson Gary Johnson Jimmy Johnson Kim Johnson Marty Johnson Wayne Johson Richard Jolley Marc Jolley David Jones Tony Jones Ronald Keller Sandra Kersey Timothy Kesley Karen Key Leslie Keys Sonya Kibble Kathy Kirkpatrick Susan Kuhn Tim Kuhn Scott Kyle David Lane Anthony Lawson Bruce Lawson Janice Lawson Vickie Lawson Wanda Lawson David Leamon Greg Ledford Sheila Ledford David Lee Tim Lemons Tana Lewis Arthur Lindsey Cliff Liner 184 Doug liner Denise Long Rebecca Long Sheila Long Teresa Long Beth Longley Kathy Loughheed Vicki Love day Paula Maddox Kahty Mag rum Dale Maney Barry Mantooth Melinda Mantooth Martha Marlin Vickie Martin Carlos Mason Judy Matthews Rowland Matthews George Maupin Debbie May Wayne Mayo Debbie McCraken Vivian McCarter lerry McCaslin Steve McConnell Tim McCullen Steve McCurry Charles McDowell Robin McDowell Anita McFarland Robert McLeod Connie McNeese Pat Medlin Susan Medlin Dennis Merriman Vickie Mervell Bobby Mikel Charles Miller Ricky Miller Sandy Miller Terry Miller Karen Mills Sandra Moody Glenda Mooneyham Barry Moore Dianna Moore Rene£ Moore Sheila Moore Tammy Moore Tim Moore Alan Morris Levon Morrison (arnie Morrow Brian Mowery Carol Mowery Tammy Murphy Eric Murray Jimmy Murray Wayne Nance Mary Ann Newman Jan Nipper Jeanna Nipper Roger Nipper Leslie Nolen Timmy Norwood Karen Odom Randy Ogle Jeff Owens Freddie Panter Terri Parker Terry Parker Wilma Parker 185 Pam Patterson Michael Payne Mitchell Payne Hansell Peels Kenneth Peels Lonnie Pendergrass Christine Phillips Pal Phillips William H. Freshmen ... just out of the starting gate and trying desperately to keep up the pace. It was, of course difficult to become adjusted to the five-minute breaks between classes, final exams and the pranks upper-classmen were constantly trying to play on them. It had its highlights, though. Who can forget their very first high school dance, or their first Cleveland Bradley pep rally? Somehow, the freshmen survived, found they had unlimited class spirit and put it all to- gether to create a great class. (l-r) Karen Wilson-pres., Monica Alborno -V.
