Dedication Service of Bradley High’s new half-million dollar wing was held Septem- ber 25, 1956 at 7:30 o’clock in the school auditorium. Rev. Marquis Triplett, pastor of Broad Street Methodist Church, gave the invocation. Mr. R. R. Vance, director of public high schools in Tennessee, was the main speaker. Mr. Q. M. Smith, Bradley’s first principal from 1916 to 1920, now President of Middle Tennessee State College, headed the list of former principals which included: W. B. Parks, 1920 to 1923; Roy Anderson, 1923 to 1927; Arthur L. Rankins, 1927 to 1931; Gilbert Tripp, 1939 to 1941; M. C. Smith, 1941 to 1942, and Emil Farr, 1946 to 1954. E. J. Frazier and C. A. Kyle, former principals now deceased, were honored. The Bradley Band and Glee Club participated in this program. Following the dedication open house was held for a tour of the new building, which was begun two years ago and was completed for the beginning of the 1956-57 school term. The structure includes a new cafeteria, library, a home economics department, an agriculture department, an athletic department, music department, speech and art department, shop rooms, and boys’ and girls’ rest rooms. The cafeteria has all modern equipment in kitchen and dining area and a seating capacity of 300. The home economics department consists of sewing rooms, a practice lounge re- sembling modern living rooms, and kichen facilities adequate for serving guests. A practice stage, music store room, individual practice rooms, and an office make up the music department. The new athletic building consists of an office, a training room, a private football dressing room, and a public rest room. Also, new bleachers have been built for the football field. The entire addition has tile flooring, flourescent lighting, and a gas heating plant. The old building was redecorated at a cost of $75,000. —Courtesy of “The Trumpeter”
