TEXAS 1AvLo I 749141-made MEANZPEUER Yunaooxs THE SENIOR CLASS PRESENTS THE I952 ES f O ., ,,,, , - 4 1 1 r l Y 1 1 Y , 1 O- 1 we dedicate THE 1952 BRADLEYAN to the Bradley-Bour- bonnais citizens now serving in the armed forces of our country. The sacrifices of these servicemen, and thousands more like them, make it possible for us to live in a nation that remains the land of the free. FOFZWCFCJ With words and pictures the BRADLEYAN has kept an informal record of student life at B.B.C.H.S. In this issue we of the staff have tried to show the activities and the spirit of our school in the past year. We hope this book will be a treasured volume to you in years to come. THE BRADLEYAN STAFF in this volume I. ADMINISTRATION II. CLASSES III. ACTIVITIES IV. ATHLETICS V. ADVERTISEMENTS board of education JAMES TOPLIFF Prefident s , N x JOSEPH R. DOMINICK S. W. EVANS Secretary Member S I ROBERT MARTIN EDMOND REGNIER Member Member principals message We are living in an age of change, an age of growth-and also an age of confusion. No one in the world seems to have the complete answer to the questions in the minds of the multitudes. What will be the life of tomorrow? How will we as a people fit into the world picture? What peoples in the world will be our friends, and will some of them be our enemies? Can we, as a people, maintain or surpass our present high standards of living? Can we maintain a democratic system of government? How may each of us as an individual fit best into the life of tomorrow? There are many different answers given to this question, but in all of them there is a common element. To keep our place in the world as a nation or as an individual we must be trained. Education is the answer. We may secure it in any way that we can or wish to do, but it must be secured. We as a people must not just keep up with others. We must be leaders. Your high school has as its chief aim the broadening out and extending of your train- ing. It is also attempting to instill in you a desire for knowledge and its application. i ,W ' S. A. This is the first year our election of council officers was held after a primary election, a week of campaigning, an election assembly, and then the final election. The results were Ron Dusenbury, Presidentg Whitey Williams, Vice President, Jean , Pechauer, Secretaryg and Carole Hasemeyer, Treasurer. During the past year the council presented the school with curtains for the gym. In L january a Litterbug Campaign called the students' attention to the need for taking care of our building. Two social activities, the Homecoming Dance and Spring Party, were very successful. Mrs. Grimes and Mr. Anderson served as advisors. concessions committee Left to right: Ruth Mills, Earl Witholf, Pat Gulczynski, jackie Stowe, Bob Stuck. Witli the growth of our school and the increasing demands for funds to operate activ- ities, there has come the necessity for more efficient operation of the concessions. This year thirteen different school organizations have received concession funds to help them finance their activities. In addition, the school's program and entertainment fund has been financed through receipts of the concessions. To organize and operate the concessions a committee of five students was selected at the beginning of the year from a list of volunteers. The Concessions Committee took the amounts of money requested by an organization and approved by the Student Council and the administration, converted the amount to a percentage of the total money requested, and determined how many workers that organiza- tion would have to supply. The committee also had the problem of estimating correctly the public's appetite for the various items on the menu. During the course of the year the hungry spectators consumed 1,344 hotdogs, 7,572 ice cream bars, 8,376 bottles of soft drinks, and 8,150 bags of popcorn. The total profits for the year amounted to over 351400.00 This year the Concessions Committee consisted of Pat Gulczynski, Ruth Mills, jackie Stowe, Bob Stuck, and Earl Witthoft. Under the leadership of its two faculty members, Mr. Skalsky and Mr. Canham, the club has made model planes and cars, and also done work in photography. The club enjoyed an introductory course in radio operation given by Mr. Cunham, who is a licensed radio operator. The members' interest in applied science, coupled with the scientific background of the sponsors, indicates that the Science Club is on the road to success. 3.6.6. The Girls' Athletic Association has had an active year of particpation in tournaments, and in intra-murals in volleyball. Bowling, hikes, basketball, archery, a bike hike, and, when weather permitted, softball, were part of the year's activities. The GAA were co-sponsors with the FHA of the carnival, magazine drive, and square dance, their part of the proceeds going toward funds for a tennis court and campers' fees. They also sponsored with the FHA the Christmas party, and by themselves a slum- ber party. Mar Lou Safiran and eanine Lambert were chosen re resentatives for 1951. Meeting every Tuesday and Wednesday during the activity hour, the members spent the year in becoming more proficient with the bow and arrow. During the winter months the club members moved indoors to the shop and built backdrops so they could continue their sport. The officers of the club were Ed Davis, President, and Gerald LaGesse, Secretary-Treas- urer. Organized by a group of senior boys, the club is trying to encourage participation in golf by providing a well-rounded program of golf instruction. During the fall and spring, members practiced oiixthe school grounds, attempting to have the balls land somewhere on the football field. Because of the lack of indoor facil- ities, the winter program was limited to discussions of the rules and etiquette of the game. However, it is hoped that additional equipment, particularly -a driving net, will make a year-round program possible. Other club activities included talks by local professionals, practice at a driving range, and practice rounds at various golf courses. The club was headed by Glenwood Martin, President, Bert Lear, Vice Presidentg jim Hamilton, Secretary, and Milt Umphrey, Treasurer. Mr. Harnstrom was the club's advisor. Connie wiese at 1 N x ..... The Indian chief predicted victory at the traditional bonfire and pep rally which pre- ceded the snake dance through town. After days of preparing floats and decorating the gym the big game was upon us. Bradley won a decisive victory over Momence. During the half time there was a parade of the floats, followed by a Hello Alumni presenta- tion by the band. In a gym transformed by crepe paper and balloons, old friends and classmates danced away the evening to Chuck Granger's music. The climax of an already successful evening came when Barbara Cameron was crowned Homecoming Queen of 1951 by Ron Dusenbury, co-captain of the team. Attendants to the Queen were Maureen Godolphin, Carol Chapman, jackie Gulczynski, and Teresa Petko. Another year, another Homecoming, pleasant memories fade into the past. Opening against a powerful Pontiac eleven, Coach Butkovich's men lost a close 18-12 decision but made a good showing. They went on to win the next six games in a row, start- ing with St. Anne, 19-2. After rolling over Lockport 13-O, Central 20-0, Gilman 19-7, and Momence 25-12, the Boilermakers spoiled Morris' Homecoming with a 14-13 win. The Boilermakers then met a strong Crete team in the game for the conference title, but after a hard-fought battle the Bradley team found itself on the losing end of a 32-20 score. St. Pats, the last game of the year, was postponed for five days. When the teams finally met, Bradley tasted defeat, 38-12. The Bradley Boilermakers, a highly regarded team before the season started, began regular play by dropping the opener to Central, to the tune of 36-39. Things began to look better when we took Cal City, 46-385 Momence, 64-29, St. Anne, 49-34g and St. Pat's, 57-37 in our stride, but this ended when we met Thornton of Harvey, who humbled us 52-32. When we met Kankakee, we again lost, 37-38, but we looked like the Bradley teams of old and finished fighting hard. We beat Crete, 72-61, and took a record of five wins and three losses to the Kankakee Christmas tourney, where we were defeated by East Peoria, 61-63, and then by Hall of Spring Valley, 35-46. We again beat Crete, 74-56 and then Gilman, 68-45. This marked the beginning of the K.V.C. tournament. In our initial performance, we defeated Peotone, 58-49, but in the second game, bad luck struck again, St. Pats defeated us in overtime, 55-57. After the tournament we defeated Mooseheart '54-43, and St. Anne 67-59, but then fell to Peotone, 48-50. We overcame Lindbloom in overtime, 69-67, and sought revenge on St. Pats, 67-50, and then scalped Momence, 58-29. The Boilermakers traveled to Blue Island and were defeated, 51-55. We settled scores with Central by rapping them 51-33, and we won the K.V.C. conference title by beating Gil- man, 72-67. We defeated Watseka, 60-51, for the last game of the regular season, with a record of sixteen wins and eight losses--a GOOD season. 1 Mr. jepsen .......mw., , .. r basketball First row: Eldon Brickle, Jack Beaupre, Ray Boggs, Darel Larkins, Herb Marlaire, Kenny Cannon, Paul Kerouac.
