INGRAM, JR. PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE This was another year of crisis and Khrushevg a year in which young people have again been exposed to evidence that our way of American living can only be perpetuated through judicious evaluation and utilization of those principles and ideals which we share as a direct result of a common experience, the American public school. The battle between the forces of freedom and legions of evil has long been joined, and the battlefield is no longer a remote orchard in Italy or a desert in Africa. The classroom and the laboratory are now vital weapons in the battle for the future of mankind just as the teachers and students are soldiers in the forefront of the struggle. The battle scene may be the early dawn at Cape Canaveral or noonday in a commercial laboratory. The acquisition of each new skill is a patrol action, and unveiling of a new concept is an individual victory. In any successful operation the attacker must maintain a balanced attack, and we must be careful lest our technical and scientific advances outweigh our spiritual and moral gains. If our way of life shall prevail, some generation, perhaps your generation, must unlock the door of emotional and moral maturity with the key of your energy and devotion. We have had everything from fights to birthday parties, and no two days have ever been the same. By some strange guiding light We managed to make all of our shipment deadlines. We all became traveling salesmen, when we sold ads, except for Harriet Powell, who for some strange reason could never be excused. Still the girls sold more ads than the boys. How about that Spanky and Jimmy? There were many who helped edit your 1960 TORNADO, To begin with we would like to say thanks to each homeroom annual representative - for with- out their aid there would be no yearbook. Mr. Mathews for the many pictures he gave to us. Mr. Mullis and Terry Walters for the pictures they made. Qfrl c . .gl Mr Ingram and the faculty for their cooperation Cespecially on picture- makin da s.D Mrs. Moore for keeping our finances straight. Also trib- S Y ute should be extended to Mr. Francis for brighting our dim room with his cheerful remark, Is the annual coming out today? To each of these we say a special Thank you. And last but certainly not least we want to say thanks to each of you who bought a 1960 TORNADO, There are errors and rnore errors and we are truly sorry. lf there are complaints we suggest you join the 1961 ANNUAL STAFF next year. One faniiliar phrase said by each meniber this year was- 1f I had just realized what it takes to put an annual out I would never have in the past criticised the yearbook.
