Dedication In this brief moment before our high school days will be a fond memory in our past, we of the Annual Staff would like to thank in some small way the people who have made our preparations for the future possible. Foremost in our minds are our wonderful parents, who have guided us towards manhood and womanhood thus far along the road of life. But looking closely at our past we see that our parents had a silent partner who worked long and hard-hand in hand-with them-Our Community. It is not an easy task to pin-point the many ways, both tangible and intangible, in which living in the community has benefited us. But the thoughts that are uppermost in our minds at this time bring this part of our community into view. The churches, guiding us, giving us something upon which no value can be placed-a faith in God. The businessmen, lawyers, doctors, government officials, and faculty members have ubeen theren when We needed them-from the first grade to the twelfth grade. We could always count on their support whether we were selling cakes at a cake sale or trying to pass a bond issue for better schools. Our civic groups have been constantly willing to aback up any of our endeavors. Our school P.T.A. always there, always a guiding guardian angel working for us. Thus the Annual Staff of 1959 would like to dedicate this year's annual to Our Community, our elusive foster parent to whom we owe our everlasting gratitude for a life well begun! rA'fA ififmv Our Commumty .-vi. , HERB 5 'in Years Ago This Was Our School. h M The Latest Addition to Bradford High School In the county courthouse at Starke one can find an office occupied by the Super- intendent and those who help him. In the library at Bradford High School frequently one can find the faculty. Although city blocks apart, these two groups work to- gether constantly with but one goal-better schools for our community. We the stu- dents, have been the recipients of much of their labor. Known primarily as those who guide us and instruct us, the administra- tion and our teachers are really much more. They are the supporting pillars of all our endeavors. helping us lay the foun- dations for our many castles in the sky. Because of this, their memory will be with us always. ,ff an9l:'f,W,,, ! 'H' ul- lf- wil- :li 'K New teachers around Bradford High this year. Behind the solid, staid brick ex- terior of Bradford High School, one can find eager vibrant students en- gaged in a myriad of different ac- tivities. From the sounding of that first bell in early September to the cries of delight on the last day of school a steady stream of events keeps the students forever on the move. While studies provide the knowledge of facts that will help one as an adult, the extracurricular ac- tivities are an important integral part of a well-rounded life. Success of a project well done, fellowship with friends, taking part in some sport, or cheering on fellow students-all help a student to learn to accept more and more responsibility. Next year many of these activities will take place in our new auditorium. The following pages are a record of some of the events that took place this year. B-E-A-T Fernandina B-E-A-T Fernandina This was the battle cry of the citizens of Bradford High School as November T rolled around. The fever of Homecoming 1958 was felt not only by the students but by all the wonderful people who make up Bradford County. Weeks of preparation were climaxed on this eventful day. All eagerly awaited its arrival for this homecoming was to be a reunion of all the past classes of Bradford High School. is L- Nuvwffwrff R T558 'W cuss Mr. Thomas marks his calendar so he won't forget the day. The excitement of the events that were to occur that day was felt by all as they filed into the stadium. The skits, all in some way telling of the eventual defeat of the Pirates, were viewed by all with delight. The Senior Class took top honors with their skit, The Trial of Tom Dooley. Although new to the school, the Seventh Grade managed to win second place honors with The Pirate Conqueror. The entertaining third place skit was Gun Smog featuring the members of the Science Club. The highlight of the day was the announce- ment by the Master of Ceremonies, Coach Temple, of the 1958 Homecoming Queen, Miss Linda Caskins. irate fights Jim the P u r p l e Eater. with the F.F.A. Uur Team Under the guidance of Head Coach Len- nard Register and Assistant Coaches David Hurse and Jim Temple, the Tornadoes of 1958 had a very successful campaign. They won seven and lost two during the regular season during which they captured the Key- stone Conference Championship for the sec- ond straight year. Then the Tornadoes met Terry Parker in the post-season Strawberry Bowl Game and were tied 14-14 by a second- half Terry Parker rally. The season started with consecutive wins over Macclenny 14-6, Bolles 13-7 and P. K. Yonge 20-7. The powerful Palatka Maroons administered the first setback to the Tornadoes, winning 18-6 on their home field. Bradford followed with a 13-6 decision over Perry before bowing to Columbia High of Lake City 13-6. The Home- coming Game was against Fernandina Beach and Bradford once again hit the victory trail with a rousing 27-7 win. Next the Tornadoes traveled to Sante Fe for a game that would decide the Keystone Conference Champion- ship. The undefeated but once-tied Rebels of Sante Fe loomed as a formidable opponent but the flashy Tornadoes, playing like the champions they were, humbled them 25-13. The regular season was closed with a 19-7 win over Clay County. Hats off to the coach- ing staff and the team members for a job well done. POST SEASON-Bradford and Terry Parker of Jacksonville were invited to play in the Annual Strawberry Bowl Charity Game. The Tornadoes rolled to a 14-0 halftime mar- gin but Terry Parker staged a thrilling second-half comeback to tie B.H.S. 14-14.
