We tried to get a little of everyone and everything in it, but there are a lot of limitations to black on white. You can't hear the crowd cheering, the inflection of a teacher's voice, nor the julie box at the Drydock. The Spy has attempted to picture your year . . . the year of Hey-Bob-O-Ree-Bob and 'iOpen the Door, Richard' '... the year our conversation made no sense whatever, for lack of anything better, we said Vout and greeted our friends with Wl1o do you say? much to the disgust of our uninitiated elders. A little of all this went into this Spy, which we dedicate to you, the student, who will remember, because you were there. Witlr twelve lettermen forming the neucleus of the 'lo eleven, Kenosha, under the leadership of Coaches Engle and Trebbin, success- fully opened the conference campaign by downing a revitalized Horlick eleven 12-6. Deprived of their tune-up game with Watrkegrrn because of the polio epidemic. the Reds were erratic, often showing signs of brilliance and then noticeably lapsing. ln this the game was typical of the entire season. Kenosha opened the scoring late in the first quarter when Jack McMullen lunged across from the two to cap a -'li yard drive. In the third quarter Horlick knotted the count on a seven yard jaunt by Velzka. Midway in the fourth quarter, John Maphis set up the win- ning tally by snaring a Horlick pass on the Horlick -19. Bruce Patton and Tom Johannes ran and passed Kenosha to the 12. After three plays gained five yards, Johannes flipped a flat pass to Patton, who scampered for the score. 11 il KENOSHA 6 BELOIT 7 October Kenosha's flrst jaunt abroad was unsuc- cessful, and the Reds returned from Beloit on the short end of a 7-6 score. Beloit scored in the Hrst quarter after a poor Kenosha kick rolled dead on the 58. After racking up two first downs on passes. Pellegrin raced 15 yards for the score. Torrey's all important placement was good. Midway in the sec- ond quarter Kenosha scored on a 75 yard drive. Tom Johannes passed 29 yards to Joe Burzynski for the touchdown. Milo l echner's try for the point was blocked. The second half was a see-saw battle with most of the play between the 30 yard lines. N X .1 -IK Row 1: T. Bisclglia, li. Dnbryznski, lf. Anuhnav, J. Rugged HEHM N KEN OSHA 14 CENTRAL 7 October 11. Kenosha extended the Homecoming string to seven straight by whipping Central 14-7. Completely dormant in the first half, the Reds were in their top form of the season during the second half, marching at will for two scores while holding Central completely in check. In the second quarter, Al Dockery, Central's flashy halfback, opened the scoring on a ten yard jaunt around left end. The kick was good. Bruce Patton started the second half attack by recovering a fumble on the 44. On straight power plays led by Jack McMullen, Tom Johannes, and Patton, the Reds marched to the two. McMullen plowed over. Milo Fechner added the tying point. The second touchdown was all Tom Bisciglia. K'Nazi Dobryzinski blocked a Central punt, and Bisciglia re- covered on the 31. Bisciglia rammed for sixteen of the yards and then moved the final two. Fechner again converted. The Red line was highly effective with Ken Huxhold, Roger Miller, and Dobryzinski all outstanding. KENOSHA 0 PARK 13 October 19. Showing a complete reversal of form from the Central game the Reds succumbed to the Park Jinx, 13-0. For the fourth straight year the Racine eleven trampled on the Red and Black. With the game only three minutes old, Park led 6-0. Park kicked off to start the game, and Bruce Patton re- turned to the 30. Two line plays gained nothing, and the Reds fumbled. Park recovered, and six plays later they scored. The conversion was low. In the second quarter Park stopped the Reds on the four and in the third quarter marched 96 yards in 15 plays, to lead 13-O. Kenosha showed more spark and drove to the eight, only to be halted by a roughness pen- alty. Ken Huxhold and Patton were the only bright spots in an otherwise dark picture. Coach Engle instructs his boys in the proper ex- ecution of a touchdown play in preparation for the West tilt. Guard Dick Anderson and tackle Dick Wiigner' pose for the camera. KENOSHA 14 EAST 6 October 25. Kenosha bounced back from the Park defeat to overwhelm East 14-6. All three touchdowns were the result of fumbles, but throughout most of the game the Reds outplayed the Madison gridders. Kenosha scored first mid- way in the second period, when East fumbled Bruce Patton's kick and joe Burzynski recovered on the three. After three line plays failed, Pat- ton passed to Dick Stetson in the end zone. Milo Eechner converted. Kenosha threatened twice more in the first half, but each drive fell short. Gridmen Roger Miller, Bruce Patton, and Bill Hart smile an approval of their team. East counted in the third quarter by recovering a fumble on the Kenosha 35. After two line plays had gained little, Erickson pitched 27 yards for a score. The kick was wide. Several minutes later the Reds garnered the clinching score. Tom Kiffel set up the tally when he recovered an East fumble on the 24. Tom Johannes flipped to joe Burzynski, who was pulled down on the one yard line. Johannes nudged over the middle for the touchdown. East threatened often in the final period, but the line bracedg and Fechner un- raveled several long boots to stop the threats. 5 . fi il' '52 flii or ali - KENOSHA 6 JANESVILLE 12 November 1. Before a rainsoaked Dad's Day crowd, Janesville tipped the Reds 12-6. After a scoreless tirst half during which both teams were harnessed by the mud, the Bluebirds counted in the third period on a long pass deflected by a Kenosha defender into the hands of Jencko, who ran the remaining I0 yards for the score. Taking the ball following kickoff Kenosha marched 80 yards but lost the ball on downs on the Janes- ville five. Again in the fourth quarter Janesville scored, this time on a 20 yard jaunt by Shleisner. With three minutes left in the game Kenosha caught tire. Bruce Patton unleashed a +10 yard aerial to Joe Burzynski who sprinted the final 10 yards to score. Milo liechner's consistently long boots of 50 and 60 yards with the wet pig- skin was the feature of the game. An unidentified Janesville back scoots left end for considerable yardage, and two Red Devils move in to spill him. KENOSHA 14 WEST 26 November 6. For three quarters the Reds played the championship West Regents on even terms, only to fall in the final period on two quick Madi- son thrusts. West scored in the Hrst period when Annen intercepted a Kenosha aerial and raced 50 yards to pay dirt. Early in the second quarter Kenosha moved ahead on a 47 yard drive set up by DintU Sonnenberg, who recovered a West fumble. Bruce Patton sneaked across from the one. Milo Fechner converted. Kenosha's one point lead was short lived, as West scored with 30 seconds of the half remaining. This time the point was good, and Madison led 15-7 at halftime. The third period West broke loose and scored two quick touchdowns. Bill Sobol tallied the iinal marker for Kenosha when he dashed 57 yards with a screen pass. Bruce Patton was the team's leading scorer with 204 points over the 20 game route. Until his graduation at mid-sea- son Frank Bennett was a steady cog at the center post and provided the team with its only six footer. At the forward posts Tom Taube and George Vanchena also saw much service. The junior guards, Len Ciapetta and jack Smith, were constant point getters and will provide Coach Smith a basis for next year's live. Out of all the gloom the Reds did have two consolations. They defeated Beloit, the future state champs, by 18 points, and also copped two straight in the region- als before losing a 42-39 decision to West Allis Central which went to the semi-finals of the state tourney. Showing great scoring punch the Red's jumped to an 18-13 lead at the quarter and in- creased the count during the remainder of the game. Bruce Patton and Frank Bennett tallied 18 and 16 points respectively for the winners. KENOSHA 35 HORLICK 37 November 29, Kenosha opened their Big Eight conference schedule by absorbing a 37-35 defeat at the hands of Horlick. Five months of sweat, worry, practice, and plan- ning had its reward when the Red mermen won their ninth and last swim meet to climax the first undefeated dual meet season in the history of Kenosha High School. Under the able guidance of Coach jack Peel, the Redfish unleashed their power to roll up 575 points while limiting their opponents to a meager 265. opponents to a meagre 265. In the state meet the Kenosha swimmers almost caused a major upset when they splashed to sec- ond place in a field of 14 schools, only 14 points behind Watiwatosa, the perennial champion. In the 9 event program, Kenosha brought home 5 championships as well as several other places. Larry Keckler won the title in the 200 yd. free style in 2:09.2, only .6 seconds off the state rec- ord. Alan Roedel followed with a third in the same race. Jerry Smith won the state individual medley crown in 45.9 seconds. The third win was registered by the 200 yd. free style re'ay quartet of Wells Denyes, Bob Baker, Alan Roedel, and jerry Smith with a time of 1:45.4. Keck'er and Baker returned to place second and fifth re- spectively in the 100 ydi free style. Wells Denyes completed the scoring with a fourth in the 50 yd. free style. Fourteen new records were established during the season. In the 'Tosa relays, Kenosha tacked up two new state relay marks. Bill Stanley, a midyear grad, teamed up with Roedel, Smith, and Keck- ler to lower the 800 yd. free relay mark from 9:26.4 to 9:O5.9. Later with Denyes in the Roe- del's place, the same group set a record of 3253.2 in the 400 yd. free relay. New pool and all time Kenosha marks were set by Keckler in the 100 and 200 yd. free style, and by Smith in the individual medley. The brilliant season was due largely to the way in which Coach Peel combined the efforts of his veteran mermen, Borland, Denyes, McCarthy, Pfeiffer, Shober, Kaiser, Keckler, Smith, and Stanley, with those of the younger aspirants Kueny, Roedel, Berres, Baker, Roberts, Aiello, Hansen, and Krummg about whom the squad for next year will be built. Bob johnson as the irre- pressible Andy Hardy was everything a teen-ager should not be, while the rest of the family dealt in politics, marital troubles, and complete reforms in hilarious succession. With the political career of the Judge, Bob Speaker, as a background, they went through a storm of quarrels and reconciliations as humorous as they were unpredictable.
