CT hc masqucrs BERTHA HEETLAND, B. A. University of Iowa ORANGE and BLACK MASQUERS Cabinet Members President, Marialyce Welsh. Vice President, Grace Foster. Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Shearer. Stage Manager. Claire Giltner. Publicity Manager, Bim Tumbleson. We have had a successful and interesting year in the Dramatic Club under the di- rection of Miss Heetland and the cabinet members. The club strives to give each of its mem- bers an opportunity to take part or help in the production of plays. Once a month we have a business meeting after which a one' act play or scenes from plays are presented for the education and entertainment of club members. We presented several courtesy shows this year for the benefit of the entire stu- dent body. These taught correct manners and showed us how to act and conduct our- selves in the proper way. For the public we presented the following one-act plays: Sparkin. the carnival play. Undertow, for the Civic League, and Pearls for the speech contest. Big Time and The Cuckoo's Nest were the two three-act plays given. CAST FOR PLAY UNDERTOW Front Row-Eleanor Champion. Celestine Barnes, Norma. Ames. Ruth Mitchell. In 1936 Brad- ford sent the following students to the dis- trict contest of the state series: Louise Als- pach, Greig Ward, Bruce Velde, Gloria Boyd. Carol Landes and Florence Bentley. Gloria Boyd competed in the state contest. John Mowbray, Grace Foster, Florence Bentley, Greig Ward, Bob Boyd represented Brad- ford High at the Stark County Declamatory Contest. Every member of the cast of Proposals the one-act play presented at the state con- test, was chosen for the all-state cast. This is a distinct honor for the actors and school. Bradford was selected as one of eight schools to send a reader to the declama. tory demonstration for the High School Conference at Ur'ana in Novemer. Gloria Welsh, a sophomore. represented our school at this meeting. This year a group of twenty-five students interested in the Illinois State Speech League learned readings from selected authors for competition. First place winners spoke in the state series of contests. The widespread interest in speech and dramatic work in our school is due to the many opportunities for appearance of stu- dents and adequate facilities offered by the school. We are looking forward to contin- ued improvement in the speech department of the school.
