The Dilzary section that will become most worn an wh se finger-marked will be the Senior Section re our friends will be remembered in the ing in which we knew them best. The 1957 Barker is vours at lastl NVith Mrs. Marianne NIcCarthy's and N112 Joseph Smith's help, the Barker Staff has produced what it hopes is an excellent yearbook. It is hard to believe that, while the students were still enjoying the 1956 Barker, the staff was busily completing lay out, selecting a cover design, planning with engravers, photographers, and printers, fitting staff members into different departments, taking pictures of the prom, the junior Class Play, and the hundred other activ- ities which are part of the 1957 Barker. By September, much preliminary work had already been accomplished. With the junior staffs assistance, the members scurried around town obtaining the vital patron subscriptions. Soon the Whole campaign began to function. Activity pictures of school life, individual pic- tures, club pictures were taken as the schedule dictated. Finally the colossal job of sending the pages and pages off to the press was underway and in time was completed. On Barker Day, May 10, the staii's eHorts were rewarded by the considered comments of the students and faculty. The boys become proficient in using the slide rule, compass, and T-square, and, with pencils sharp- ened to perfection with a special file, these ama- teur draftsmen are aided in learning fine points of blueprint construction. This club prepares interested boys for industrial production work and improves each boyis skills and techniques. Under Mr. Albert Clark's expert guidance, the terms sine, cosine, and tangent become fa- miliar to members of the Slide Rule Club. Learning to read the slide rule scales, these members ponder over problems of multiplica- tion, division, squaring numbers, square and cube roots. As they delve deeper into their study, the mathematical geniuses strive to meet the challenges of the functions of angles, special applications of the slide rule to chemistry or physics problems, and the method of scientiHc notation. The purpose of this club is to acquaint high school students, interested in teaching, with the i1n- portant fundamentals of teaching at elementary, high school, and even college levels. Panel dis- cussions are often held to discuss the problem of making schools of tomorrow more progressive. These ambitious students learn the grading systems used by various teachers, the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching profession and the manner of conducting proper classroom meetings. Those who like to work with leather have every reason to be proud of their choice of club. The making of useful and decorative articles from leather is one of the oldest crafts, and with the Master Craftsman Mr. Randall, the Leather- craft Club found pleasure and pride in the articles they fashioned from leather. The chief aim of the group was to learn the skills of leathercraft. With materials furnished by the students supervised by their director, many useful projects took shape and developed most pleasing results. 77 Amateurs render service to reader'5 deligh With the help of the library. visual aids, and discussion, the members of the Reading Club aim to improve their reading rate and compre- hension.
