A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT The time will soon be here when members of the class of 1940 will leave the Bradford Senior High School to enter new and varied fields of acti- vity. Some of you have definite plans for the future and others are yet undecided what you wish to do, but I am sure that you all have a deeply-rooted desire to succeed in whatever field you enter. We wish you the utmost success but you must remem- ber that success in life does not just happen. It is usually the result of a plan of life founded upon a firm purpose, and pushed by a stout heart, a strong will, and an enthusiastic spirit. There are no short cuts to truly successful, happy living. Alfred Tennyson has said, Self-reverence, self-knowledge, self-control-these three alone lead life to sovereign power. If we know our- selves thoroughly, our limitations as well as our possibilities, and respect and control ourselves in accordance with that knowledge we are sure to achieve a measure of success proportionate to the effort We put forth. As Rebecca R. Williams has so aptly expressed it: One ship goes East, another West By the self-same winds that blow. 'Tis the set of the sail, and not the gale That determines the way they go. Like the winds of the sea are the Ways of fate As we journey along thru life. 'Tis the set of the sail that decides the goal, And not the calm or the strife. BOARD OF EDUCATION President ..........
