Tan'sey, who for 50 years was on the Board of Trustees and Chairmen Emeritus. His faithful and self- sacrificing work in the school's behalf and the absolute sincerity of his life among us, ll il both as associate and friend will make his memory precious down through the years. 2 Foreword To The Class ot 1954, While we passed through the undergraduate years at Bradford Durtee Technical Institute, y we were linked together by mutual experience May the pages ot this Annual tend to strengthen our i , bonds ot loyalty to each other and the Alma Mater. In order that these ltionds may not beibfoken and that our many memories may not be lost, even though the linking experience begone, we present this issue of the Alethea. It will serve as a means ot keep- ing alive our pleasant memories and in the future it will olter us hours of retrospective ioy. 3 I wish to convey congratulations A cmd heartiest best wishes, on behalf of myself and the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to members of the graduating class of the Bradford Durfee Technical Institute. It is a particular pleasure to do so through the pages of the 'I954 Alethea, your fine yearbook, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the founding of your Institution. You seniors have won your graduation day through hard work and persistence. I believe that America still offers untold bright futures for young people who are willing to accept its challenges and understand the deep significance, both social and spiritual, of our e way of life. Continue to be conscientious. Carry the hard work of your educational iourney into the sober adult days that now lie ahead. Do accept the wonderful privileges of an American birthright, but don't overlook or shirk the important responsibilities that rest upon all of us, as American citizens. I have every confidence that you will succeed. CHRISTIAN A. HERTER 5 QIIE The first class entered the Institute on March 7, 1904. Thus your class has y the honor of being the 50th Anniversary Class. During the four years S with us, you have seen many changes. A new science building has been completed and existing buildings have been largely renovated and modernized. You have seen the Institute take its place among the technological colleges of the nation. You have seen the number of entering freshman almost double. , I congratulate you on having had a part in the expanding program of the Institute. I am very certain that the next ten years will bring equally important changes here at Durfee Tech. We, who are left, pledge our best efforts to make of this school an institution as the years go by that you can well feel proud to call your Alma Mater. Someone has said, Friendship is the greatest asset in the World. Wealth, Success and all the Honors that one can obtain do not compare with the happiness and the pride of having one good loyal friend. I am very happy to count you among the circle of friends. I wish for you all success and happiness during the years ahead. LESLIE B. COOMBS We humbly pay tribute to Professor John W. Norman an outstanding teacher and friend of the student body. Seldom is a college faculty staff privileged to count among its number a man such as Professor Norman. Although this is his final year of teaching here at Durfee Tech the keen effect of his understanding and appreciation of student problems will always live in our memories. 6 M0160 'SX 3, by it 'A Sim 8 Q4 is ,ff 'f,,,,,pM QAEWQ f 'M W 1 3145335 ' , 1W,,ff '55 x D3 wb' 'E Y-1 'N- , nv 4- 'X-.4 Chemistry and Dyeing Dr. James W.
