ANNALS Un our right, -after giving the countersign, we enter the sacred portals of the Senior sitting-room. On the floor, sofa and chairs, the Seniors, sitting in a dignified manner, are all engaged in profitable and uplifting occupations. As we leave this peaceful and quiet roomful of cultured young ladies and proceed down the hall, we are stopped by two girls embrac- ing each other silently and tearfully. Their voices are choked with emotion. Are they parting forever, did you say? No, indeed, they are two friends, one of whom is going to Boston over Sunday. Still further down the corridor, there is a steady and sharp 1-2-3- 4 to be heard. We drawnearer and enter a pair of double doors. Who are these girls gazing soulfully upward with one hand extended im- ploringly toward the ceiling? These are the girls who form the special class in gymnastics. Their teacher gives the word, and although these girls have been enjoying every moment of their healthful exercise, they give a shout of glee and descend. ' p Following them down the corridor we observe a young lady carry- ing a glass of yellowish mixture very carefully. Who is she, did you say? See how straight she walks and you will know she is a member of the special gym class. She is just carrying her hourly egg-nog to her room. ls she ill? Well, I don't know. She looks strong. Perhaps she likes egg-nogs. Who is this girl lying prostrate on the floor? iDon't worry about her. Her roommate will revive her. She has just received word that the sixth man she has asked to the dance cannot come. The dance is tonight. Is it not a tragic situation? As we turn away from the building we observe a young man dis- consolately leaving. Who is he? He is a caller. He did not know when he came that his name would have to be on the young lady's calling list. But he knows it now. Do you see the young lady gazing out of that window? She is the girl he came to call upon. She is looking discon- solate, too, perhaps partly because she sees he is carrying a box of candy, which in his excitement he forgot to leave.
