ANNALS The Senior Play + HE unusual success of our Junior Play made the class especially anxious to have their Senior Play equally good, or, if possible, better. The fact that the Senior Play is one of the greatest social events of the year, one at which large numbers of old girls and other guests are present, furnished an added incentive to the class to acquit itself With credit. 5 Goldsmith's sparkling comedy She Stoops to Conquer, or The Mistakes of a Night, was chosen, and seemed particularly Well adapted to the talent of the class. Every part, from that of roguish little Tony, who is constantly getting himself and every one else into trouble, to that of beautiful Kate Hardcastle, who masquerades as a barmaid that she may Win her handsome lover, Marlowe, Without aid of dress, seemed especially created for the girl who took -it. Crotchety old Squire Hardcastle and his excitable Wife seemed like real persons, and the parts of Constance Neville and her lover, Hastings, were also portrayed With skill and vivacity. The fact that there are so many minor characters in the play made it possible for nearly every girl in the class to have a part. It is hoped that the audience received as much pleasure from Watching the pro- duction as the cast did in giving it. , 65
