ANNALS this fall a Silver Bay Meeting was held in order that the girls might become interested in and acquainted with the work done there. The prospects are good for another large delegation this coming summer. up Unusual preparations were made and successfully carried out this year in making the new girls feel at home immediately. In the summer vacation, letters were sent by the old girls to the new, welcoming them, while at the opening of school the girls were met at the trains and helped in their first weeks of school life. . . According to the usual custom, the Christian Union gave a reception to the new girls on the first Friday evening after our return in the fall, in order that we might all become better acquainted. At Thanksgiving time a voluntary offering of twenty dollars was given by the girls to aid in the work of the Children's Home in Haverhill, and chrysanthemums were sent to the Old Ladies' Home to help brighten the day for them. In both of these institutions the Christian Union has been interested for a number of years and the regular weekly visits made by the girls have made it possible for us to keep in Close touch with them. The annual fair held by the Christian Union in December was a marked success, and the proceeds, which were very generous, will go toward the various branches of work in which we are particularly interested. V Shortly before Christmas we had a Christmas tree for sixty poor children of Haverhill and Bradford. Numerous gifts, both ,useful and beautiful, together with the added attraction of Santa Claus himself, gave every child the best time I ever had, Miss. Four dozen dolls were dressed and sent to Denison and South End Settlement Houses in Boston, for their Christmas trees, while visits by groups of girls have been made which gave them some idea of the splendid work which is being carried on there. The Christian Union every year pays the tuition of atstudent at Tuskegee Institute, the remainder of the funds being used to help Fiske University, Hampton Institute, a mission school in India and another in japan, Denison House in Boston, the Boys' Club and Y.W.C.A. of liaverhill, as well as the Berry School in Rome, Ga., and the Schauffer issionary Training School in Cleveland and other good causes. Numer- ous small contributions are made to meet the demands of urgent cases brought to our notice. Voluntary offerings pledged by the members furnish the means b h' h of work. y w ic we are able to assist in these various lines 42
