Ere long two damsels fell sick, and the rest of the maidens wept for pity. Then fell the time when the two sick damsels tarried not amongst their classmates, but with- drew to their own courts. And the band of damsels, called the Specials, came to the remaining five and inquired of them saying, Fair maidens, wherefore makest thou this sorrow? And when the reason was learned the Specials made a feast for the Freshmen and bade them welcome in their midst. Thus endeth the tale of the Fresh- men, and here followeth the tale of the Sophomores. CHAPTER ll Of 'how the Sophohiores retitrrted to add new glory to their riarhe arid lineage. Three months had passed when the damsels returned and it was learned that their number was ten. And. when the year had waned their hearts mourned sorely for the passing of their Senior sisters, fair and honored. And they gath- ered themselves together and de- parted to chant a doleful lay be- neath the tower of the fair Lady Katharine. So endeth the tale of the Sophomores.
