The GENERAL BRADDOCK 1980 FALCONIAN General Braddock Area High School North Braddock, Pennsylvania 15104 Vol. IX -' w .. : Title Page 1 “They say that breaking up is hard to do. ” This line from a once popular song truly expresses the feeling of the Graduating Class of 1980. Not only are we as a class breaking up to go our separate ways, but in addition we experienced throughout our final year at GBA the chaos and apathy surrounding the possible break up of our school. Despite all the problems that faced us, we managed to pull together, both faculty and students alike, to make these final moments together truly memorable. We feel a kind of nostalgia and a closer bond with our school because it, as well as we, has reached a crossroads in its life. The future of GBA is as yet uncertain, but we know that within this school we have received an education that has helped to mold our characters and personalities and that has helped us to prepare for the jobs, careers or vocations we have chosen. Like our school, our futures are still not clear, but with the guidance we have received from the faculty and administration, we have an excellent foundation for success. The purpose of the 1980 Falconian is to record the joys and sorrows, laughter and tears that made up our fond memories of this special year. Our goal was to recreate these special moments and if in some future year when you page through this book, the memories come flooding back and you shed a few tears for GBA, our job will have been accomplished. So this is it - GBA 1979-80. We hope this Falconian finds a place among your cherished treasures. 4 Theme Seniors S ROBERT ANDRASCIK “Bugs” SHELLEY D. ASKEW “Shell ROBERT D. BACZEK “Baz Activities 1. This year's Senior Banquet was held on Tuesday. May 20, with a Three Rivers Locke Cruise. Despite the rain, the participants were treated to a delicious meal and an enjoyable trip. Depante Junior Class 43 CLASS OFFICERS The Junior Class has been working hard to raise enough money needed for their “Junior Class Prom.” Because of the won- derful job we did during our soph- omore year ($300) we managed to raise the amount needed ($2,500) by Mid-February. The beginning of the school year looked good for the juniors. We sponsored a dance, sold mugs, and had, “Car- nation Day for Valentine's. Since this might be the last prom of the General Braddock Area we want- ed it to be the Best. The prom was held on May 8, at The Holiday House in Monroe- ville; the Madhatters were the group which played during the prom and Dale King was the Disc- Jockey for the after prom. C. We'd like to thank them for their dauntless enthusiasm and encouragement, which helped to make our years at General Braddock Area High School the best. Mr. Hruby and Mr. Chappie, first of all, set their goals high for the Senior Class of 1980. They were a great help with the fund-raising, the Senior Trip, and the Senior Banquet. Sponsoring the Junior Class this year, Mrs. Struth and Mrs. D'Andrea really got everything together, to make the Junior Prom a great success. With Mr. Schlanger right behind the Sophomores, the underclassmen really tried to make this a year to remember. Mr. Hruby, sponsoring the newspaper and the Student Gov- ernment, gave a lot of time and effort, and much needed sup- port, wherever and whenever he could. Mrs. Baldwin's new cheerleading squad provided the spirit and support needed to inspire our teams to play their best. Mr. Rawson and Mr. DeMarco organized an outstanding in- tramural program, that was great entertainment and lots of fun for the spectators as well as the players. The intramurals are relatively new, but they bring a welcome competitive spirit among the students participating. Mr. Kimes, as director of the band and color guard, did a great job In helping his group in competition and should be proud of the awards they received. They practiced hard at band camp last summer and always displayed dignity and pride in representing the General Braddock School District. Behind the choral department all the way, without despair and with great enthusiasm was Mrs. Fan task i. She also spon- sored the stage crew and managed to uphold a professional air all along when her students performed. And finally to Miss Reznik, who organized the Yearbook Staff, fund-raising projects, meeting deadlines, and all the oth- er responsibilities included in her job, we extend a special thanks. To these dedicated teachers we say, Thanks with respect and gratitude. . V .4 • , . • ■ ii i V ■ v vC 3 jcA- 60 t ;jpv Mr. L. Schianger Mrs. J. Fantaski Mr. T. DeMarco Mr. W. What is a dedicated year- book member? Is it a person who sells candy or T-shirts? Is it a person who offers sugges- tions or sits at meetings but takes no active participation? Or is it a person who does all of the above in addition to giv- ing up bis own time and ef- forts to help set up the book, write articles, or whatever else is needed? If you realize that the last definition is the one that applies, you’ll realize why many of those who ap- pear in the picture were unre- cognizable to the dedicated members of the staff. ROW I: B. Acting crazy and acting wild. You couldn't wait to go to school To clown around and act the fool. But when you grew and acted mature, You seemed to like school more and more. You didn't do things the students dared Like putting tacks on teacher's chairs. In elementary school the time did fly — You were ready then for junior high. Junior High is middle school. Where you quit the clowning and learn the rules, Your life style now is not the same Because you realize life is not a game. Everyone knows the time is near, For ending out our Senior Year. So all the Seniors start to fear And ask, “Where will we go from here? Will we be doctors, lawyers, teachers and teach? Or will we be smokin' or drinking on the street? The Seniors by now should have made up their minds. What they want to do in their life-time. We’re saying good-bye to the school we will miss. But, I want all the Seniors to remember this — We are the future, we were the past. We’re proud of our Senior Class. And now that our work is done. We welcome Class of '81.
