High School i _______________________________________________________ l The life of a high school is composed of events great and small — big days and routine days. It is the task of a yearbook to keep these days in our memories. We have tried to shed some light on these events for you. 2 In CONG RESS. The four years to follow were a valuable and necessary part of our lives. Sure we had classes, games, pep rallies, and assemblies, but most important we did these together. Together we got involved and most of the time we came out trium- phantly. Now our school days and the good times behind them are over. It is time to look to tomorrow, to go our own ways and progress. But in the process, we will be Holdin’ on to Yesterday. . . . 4 5 OUTSTANDING SENIORS i t 6 Class Officers D Anderson, T Connelly. T. Hunsicker, missing S. After a seven hour bus ride, they finally arrived at the Lord Simcoe Hotel. Soon, the three days of fun and excite- ment began! There were many sites to see and activities to engage in while on their trip. The first was a tour of Toronto and a visit to the Casa Lama Castle. Some students also attended the Science Center. At night there were many different discotheques and restau- rants to explore. The Nag's Head was one of the biggest attractions among the Seniors. One of the more amusing things that happened on the trip was when Mr. Walsh and a few Seniors met THE General Braddock's great granddaughter! She noticed the group in the lobby of the hotel by the name of the school on the back of Brian Geffert’s jacket. She also told the gang that she is employed as a secretary' in the Lord Simcoe Hotel. All in all, the Seniors enjoyed themselves and could have stayed another week or two!! 32 TRIP 33 SENIOR All aboard the Liberty Belle was the call that all the seniors and chaper- ones heard on Tuesday, May 25, when they reached the dock and embarked on a dinner cruise for their Senior Banquet. The participants boarded the boat at 7:30 and were treated not only to a three hour cruise on the rivers but also to a delicious Captain’s Buffet Dinner. A rock and roll dance band provided the music for the 180 seniors and guests in attendance to dance their way through an unforgettable Senior Class experi- ence. 34 BANQUET 35 SENIOR On May 28th at 9:00 a.m. the Class of '76 razzled and dazzled with T.V. skits, commercials, and entertainment. The whole morning of activities was arranged by the Seniors themselves. Also, on this day awards were presented to out- standing seniors. 36 ze ONINHOIAl llJa nrj 4rA u a - jt tfjC - JL — £— y'M. These people are the ones who are responsible for taking charge of the extra- curricular activities in the school. As a small token of our appreciation for all the hard work they have put forth and the aggravations which they must put up with, it seems only fitting that we feature this group of dedicated people who care enough to do something extra in the school and go out of their way to help the students. Miss Fitzgerald and Mr. Wilson, the sponsors of the Senior and Junior Classes respectively, help to organize all the ac- tivities concerning these classes. Miss Reznik serves as the advisor to the school newspaper, the GBS Unlimited, as well as the Falconian Yearbook. The editorial staff of the newspaper was also changed. Rather than place all the work on one person, the staff was divided according to work preference un- der six editors. Mary Henderson served as editor-in-chief, and the work load was divided among oth- er various editors: Robert Har- man, layout editor: Kathy Kaefer, news editor: Dennis Meyers, fea- ture editor: Tony Senic, sports edi- tor; Chris Duranko, typing editor: and John Pawlowski, art editor. This w ide expanse in staff enabled the paper to provide a more exten- sive coverage of school events. 75 DECA PROM COMMITTEE The 1975-76 DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, had a successful year. The year started off with the election of new officers. The officers were: Frank Williams, Charles Cannon, Rhonda Jones, Ellisa Neal, Carmen Thomas, and Luann Scavincky. Junior Vice President, Rhonda Jones, was also elected Secretary of District 10 DECA. On January 26, students from DECA attended a District Conference at the Holiday Inn at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. In March, six DECA members were chosen to attend a State Conference in Hershey, Pa. The conference lasted three days and the students competed against other DECA students from Pa. in various contests. ROW I: Mrs. McCoy, Roslyn McGuigan. Marianna Franzetta, Frank Williams. The Yearbook Staff has really worked hard this year. Besides paying off the greater part of an over $1,500 debt, the staff has raised enough money to pay for this year's book. Faced by a great financial bur- den and the almost insurmounta- ble fact that many of the major staff members chose not to finish out the year, this year’s staff has banded together and overcome in- numerable problems. Without the dedication of a FEW' hardy souls, this edition of the Falconian would never have made it to press on time. There must be some truth to the saying, “good things come in small packages!” 80 81 The choir performed for the Christmas and Spring Concerts and represented the schools in nu- merous outside performances in the community and elsewhere. The highlight of their year was singing at the U.S. Steel Plaza downtown. They returned filled with pep, cheers, and two ribbons for excellent and superior co-ordination. A blue-ribbon was also awarded to Terri Hunsicker. In addition, the squad took 1st place in the Serra Christmas Tournament. The left over money was used for new basketball uniforms and shoes. It was these girls who showed the true meaning of energy, pride, and school spirit. 86 Tia Jacobs, Co-Caplain Vangie Kieissas 87 Terri Hunsicker, Co-Captain The majorettes, sparkling in their gold and black uniforms, front the band and enhance the marching performances. Selected to finish no higher than fourth in the section, the young but talented Falcons led by first year coach Matt Furjanic won the sec- tion in a thrilling playoff against McKeesport. With two seconds left on the clock, Jeff Baldwin intercepted a pass and put in the final basket, making the score 46-45 in favor of GBA. The Falcons then traveled to the Civic Arena where they lost to a much taller Monessen team in the WPIAL quarter finals. The evening's activities began at 6:30 with a dinner. All coaches, sponsors, and members of the various GBA sports activities, which include football, baseball, basket- ball, wrestling, track, softball, golf, cheerleader, band, and majorette, were honored at this time. 113 The school year is composed of many different seasons, each consisting of memorable events and holding special thoughts of yesterday. During autumn many enjoyable, exciting things occurred to initiate the year. The snowy season of winter contained many thrilling occur- rences which helped continue the joyful memory. The final season of the school year, spring, brought with it blooming flowers, greener grass and trees, summer and warmer days, longer lasting light in the evenings, and a happy spirit looking with anticipation to the summer. 114 HOMECOMING Saturday, October 18, 1975, was the date for the second Homecoming at GBA. Although preparations for the event had been going on for the past month, they swung into full force on Fri- day. October 17. The Pep Club spon- sored an important pep rally to instill spirit into the student body. The high- light of the day was the announcement of the Homecoming Queen. Tia Jacobs was chosen as this year's queen. She and her court — Lynda Kuzins, Angie Sobek, Deana Williams, Cindy Doyle, and Kar- en Reno rode in a place of honor atop a float in the Homecoming Parade which initiated Saturday's activities. The fes- tivities continued into the afternoon as Scott High Stadium resounded with noise as the Falcons played Ell wood City. Although the team didn't win the game, the students and supporters of GBA could really be proud of the Home- coming Celebration they had produced. 116 117 118 119 SNOWBALL The second annual Snowball dance was a great success. The beautifully decorated gym opened at 8 P.M. Black and gold streamers, silver stars, strobes, and colored lights gave it an air of ele- gance. There was a buffet of ethnic foods prepared by students of different na- tionalities. It has become another high- light of the GBA school year. 120 121 TAMBURITZANS 122 TALENT 124 SHOW 125 CHRISTMAS 126 CONCERT 129 CONCERT 131 SPRING 132 CONCERT 133 CARNIVAL On Sunday, May 2, the Falconian Yearbook Staff sponsored a Spring Fling Carnival on the front lawn of the high school. It was Prom time for GBA and many people’s nerves were on edge about the event. This year's Prom was held at the Holiday Inn in Edgewood. Music for the event was provided by the group the Del-Tones who did an excellent job in enter- taining everyone for the evening. The queen and her court were chosen. This year’s queen was Deana Williams and the girls chosen for the court were Pam Milton. Kathy Kraly, Zetra Rose, and Cathy Pollack. At 1:00 a m. the scene changed to the Black- ridge Community Center for the after prom where everyone danced their hearts away until about 5:30. This page is dedicated to those people who we will never forget nor could we appreciate enough Mrs. Rodgers was so gracious to donate a lovely student-made quilt as a fund raising project for the yearbook. She was also one of the few teachers who donated some items for the Spring Carnival Miss Reznik, our sponsor, has given so much of herself to us and to our monumental task. She has been our most enthusiastic supporter and the one person we could always rely upon to support us in our efforts. Without her. The Falconian might have been just an unfulfilled dream. Our thanks should also be extended to Mr Rc nik for doing the chalcog- raphy in the book. Of course our principal. Mr. LaPietra was just super! He was always ready to help when we needed him. The group of people who appear in the center picture could not be listed separately and we’re very unhappy about this, since they certainly deserve it. This was the loyal group of supporters who chipped in and helped out with the yearbook’s spring carnival. Miss Fitzgerald helped us out when we needed it both by her personal support and her efTorts to help us with fund raising Mrs. Gucrricri. the office secretary was a great help with taking care of the finances of the yearbook and offering helpful suggestions. Our special thanks to Mr. Sylvan Pinto for his help in getting our year- book organized. What would we have done without our loyal supporters who were always around when we needed them the most?
