The G.B.A. football team finished their season with a disappointing record of 2 wins and 3 losses. Prospects looked good for a pretty fair team and the teachers' strike was a blow to the players. Their spirits sagged os the strike continued and the proper workouts that would have provided a more fit team could not be scheduled. Three of our seniors still managed to get full football scholarships. They are Gerald Freda — North Carolina State, Darryl Washington — Fort Lewis, Colorado, and Bill Glaze — Fort Lewis, Colorado. 68 Head Coach Joe McCune Backfield Coach C. Thomas, Head Coach J. Coaches Gasowski and Buczek During their first season, the General Braddock Area Barons definitely supported the statement that hockey is the world's fastest sport. Although they finished with a season record of 1-14-1, the loyal fans expected and were provided with many thrilling moments. The popular- ity of hockey in the area is probably due to the fact that the game proved to be quite an interesting diversion from the already established sports. The team, under the direction of Head Coach Paul Gasowski and Asst. Coach Bob Buczek, played most of their games at the Alpine Arena and a few at the Civic Arena. The Barons are led by Capt. Jim Ward with Alter- nates Fran Yezovich, Don Meteny, and Jef Louth. Don led the team in scoring with 14 goals, making 5 of them in the game against Lawrenceville. He also represented G.B.A. Hoc 1st Row: D. Rothrauff, B. Tomasky, Buck Reabe, B. Patterson, D. Meteny, D. Zojac, R. Wtdziszewski, Cooch Gasowki. 2nd Row: S. Cromling, K. Evanchec, J. Ward, M. Since the Barons receive no funds from the school dis- trict, they had to sponsor various fund raising activities to raise money for uniforms, practice times, and other neces- sities. Some of these were a hoagie sale, car washes, and assorted raffles. The team, along with the coaches and statisticians. Deb Onder, Steve Skarupa, and Ed Osterseal, had a long year from September to April, but they are already making preparations for next season. The Barons have good pro- spects in Jim Ward, Jef Lauth, and Don Rothrauff. In con- clusion, the seniors, Mark DeVitis, Ken Goga, Don Meteny, Bruce Patterson, Ron Widziszewski, and Fran Yezovich, are to be commended for completing their first and last season with the Barons. 72 G.B.A. Opponent 1 Gateway 5 4 Lawrenceville Cath. 1 2 Canevin 2 0 Penn Hills 7 0 Churchill 10 2 Fox Chapel 4 1 West Mifflin North 3 1 Peabody 9 1 Gateway 4 5 Lawrenceville Cath. 7 1 Penn Hills 10 3 Churchill 8 4 Canevin 9 0 Fox Chapel 11 2 Peabody 7 1 West Mifflin North 2 73 The mighty Barons sexy cheerleaders. 75 How would you like to take a quick trip to the snack bar? For many years basketball has been a popular sport in this area, but never before has it received as much sup- port from the entire community as it has this year. This is probably due to the fact that the team ended its season with o 22-5 record, climaxed by winning the state champi- onship. All the fans thank the team for a job well done and extend their best wishes for next year. This year the cheerleaders had little opportunity to exhibit their new uniforms during the shortened football season, but they had ample time during the extended basketball season. The girls worked diligently to perfect their routines in order to present flawless performances. The greatest improvements were made in preparation for the basketball playoffs. The cheerlead- ers are to be commended for showing us and everyone else their sincere support for our teams. Mrs. Struth Sponsor 92 Emily Alston Susan Cole Majorettes 1st Row: J. Konchy, M. Sobek, J. We hope next year will provide more opportunities for the exhibition of our majorettes' routines. 94 Choir 1st Row: S. Mikulo, P. Williams, K. Hart, E. Fri nd, D. Verosko, K. Beilhort, J. Once again this year, the choir provided many moments of enjoyable entertainment for the students and residents of the community. The first few months of the school year were spent in prepara- tion for the Christmas presentations. The first performance was for the St. Joseph Christian Mothers. After finishing the last song, the members rushed off to the Ardmore Roller Palace for a skating party. Two formal Christmas concerts were presented this year at the Hartman Elementary and Rankin High School Buildings. In the spring, performances were given for the United Church Women and the Ben Fairless P.T.A. The annual spring concert was highlighted by the first public viewing of the new audito- rium. The final performance was for the commencement exer- cises. The two numbers presented were “If We Only Have Love” and the class song, “Happy Together.” 96 Mrs. Jane Page, Director Chorus Classes 1st Row: B. Zochery, N. Lucarelli, M. Brown, D. Brown, R. The one thing that highlighted this performance was the fact that it was the first time the new band uniforms were publicly exhibited. Under the direction of Mr. Phillip Debski, the band spent the remainder of the year in preparation for the concerts. Two concerts, given at Christmastime, were in conjunction with the choral department, while one in the spring was strictly instrumental. Some of the senior band members put in a lot of time and work in an effort to raise money to buy jackets. Congratulations to all for hangin' in there! 98 Mr. Phillip Debski 99 Drama Club 1st Row: K. Greenhowe The Falconian Staff wishes to thank John McGreevy, Don Meteny, Bruce Patterson, Marc Strednok, Paula McCuenn, Janna Portillo, and Kathy Skowronski for their enthusiastic cooperation ond assistance on numerous occasions. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank anyone else not mentioned who helped with the publication of the 1973 Falco- nian in any way. 131 For the Class of 1973 it was and is truly an ending and a beginning. It was a conflict and confusion in the beginning, marked by demonstrations and boycotts, and it was triumph and solidarity in the end. From the anger and frustration of forced change we have slowly matured to the cheers and laughter of togetherness. From suspicion and hostility we have progressed to the point where we do not want to see General Braddock Area pass on into obscurity. As we have grown from flighty frivolous seniors to serious and sonorous graduates so we wish for General Braddock the chance to grow into the solid basis of quality education which we, the Class of 1973, know it could be. As we go forth to higher education, to gainful employment, or to service to our country and community, we go as proofs positive of what General Braddock did and can accomplish. 132 Autographs Autographs Autographs • .
