It is exemplified by the personal bravery of an Adam Bolds, who, in the face of unbeatable odds strug- gled daily not only for life but to receive a diploma, the physical manifestation of a hard won education. It is also manifest in the day to day struggles of his classmates. In the last four years they have successfully adapted to a dramatic transition of attitudes within the student body, to a diversity of administration policies and to the reactions of others to both. This year they have met the challenges of an unpopular school merger, a destruc- tive fire and the ensuing confusion and inconvenience. Seniors in the Braddock building may justly claim that they have overcome as they courageously march across the stage of graduation toward the future. ALLEN, MICHELLE DENISE Shell . . . BRADDOCK DA Y-CARE CENTER We, the Class of ’72, are pleased to present to you the first Falconian. In the beginning, uncertainty pre- vailed among us concerning its prod- uction. With the confrontation and confu- sion of a merger, we strived to over- come all obstacles and succeeded in our endeavors to remain together. It is our earnest desire that the classes succeeding us will discover ways of defeating the problems that face them, as we have done, and we’d like to extend our sincerest best wishes for their future. 36 Now listen here. Congratulations! Did you ever think it would happen? I know in the past ten months I’ve had my doubts. But through everything that has happened, here we are. Our thoughts this year are more complicated, more expand- ed than ever before. Because of the circumstances, we have had the opportunity to get into the feel of life and team about people. We have gotten the first real taste of life this year and we have many, many things to be thankful for. We have each other to thank, we have our teachers to thank, our administrators to thank and most im- portant, we have ourselves to thank. We can thank ourselves that when any problem came up we tried our best to amend it. And, in my opinion, “Trying” is what life is all about. Adapting to change is one of the most difficult adaptations man has to make, if anyone realizes this, it should be us. Do you remember at the beginning of the school year when some of us. myself included, thought we were being robbed of a lot of things? Well, maybe we were robbed of some things, but we weren’t robbed of the chance to meet new people. Before I met some of our friends from Braddock and Rankin, I had a one-track-type of people in my mind — North Braddock peo- ple. True, some of us felt we have lost something along the way, but I can see many, many more gains made. We have made progress other than in academics; we have gotten to know people, their problems, and above all, we’ve gotten to know our- selves a little better. Good luck to all of you. Excitement and activity buzzes in the yearbook room as the Rapper staff prepares its publication. The rambling re- porters hastily make last-minute changes and corrections in their articles. Conferences are held with the advisor. Miss Jane Hudak, on correct spelling, grammar, and arrange- ment. The assistant editors Donna Burrelli and Patti Chis- mar. are busy transcribing and preparing lay-outs. The edi- tor-in-chief, Sharon Smolak, is to be commended for the hard work and effort she put forth. No one relaxes until the newspaper has been distributed to the students who relax as they read the latest tidbits, gossip, sports events, and current topics. The Rapper staff relaxes too, but only temporarily, for assignments are being distributed again. The life of a journalist is a busy one! DRAMA DRAMA CLUB On March 23 and 25, the students of the Scott High Drama Club presented T. S. Elliot’s “Murder in the Cathe- dral.” The play was about the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket who supposedly betrayed the king of England. The lead role was played by Stan Tykarski with Michael Carpenter, Debbie Onder and Debbie McDonough as the three priests. These people and many others worked very hard to make this play a success under the direction of Mr. Sandor Lubisch. After the play, a party was held at the Rankin C.I.O. Hall. After all the time land effort everyone put into the play, the party was well deserved. In March, a group of members went to see the production of HAIR!!! The Drama Club would like to thank everyone whp helped make the play possible. Congratulations for a job well done!!! 108 FRENCH CLUB This school year proved to be a very rewarding one for the members of the French Club. After many months of various fund-raising activities, the club earned enough money to reach their goal. The nine French students and Mrs. Bumba spent a week- end in New York City. During their stay, they dined at a French restaurant. They enjoyed eating the delicious French foods in a very Parisian atmosphere. The club also attended the annual Foreign Language Fes- tival at Buhl Planetarium. After seeing a sky-show narrated in French, the club performed a skit. In the spring the mem- bers spent a day picnicking and horseback-riding to end a very busy and exciting year. Standing: Danny Busky. Seated: Shelly Fry. Patty Chismar. Top Row: S. Crossey. J. Styk. The first season of the General Braddock Area Falcons was not as successful as we would have liked it to be. Throughout the season, the Falcons were outscored by a total of only twenty-three points. But with the combined ef- forts of the returning lettermen, Keith Davis, Gerald Freda, Bill Glaze, Russell Linn, Daryll Washington, Phil Vasko, Gary Rogel, Earl Thomas. Marc Strednak, and Richard Si- dor, our next season appears to be very promising. 1971 FOOTBALL SEASON Falcons Opponents 6 West Mifflin North 12 12 Bishop Carrol 13 8 Rochester 12 12 Erie McDowell 13 20 Johnstown Vocational 21 13 Beaver 20 28 Washington 21 6 Albert Gallatin 16 122 COACHES: Charles Thomas — offensive backfield. Dressed in their attractive new uniforms, our energetic cheerleaders, aided by our vivacious majorettes, added a tre- mendous boost to our pep rallies and athletic events. Their performances fired our spirits and filled us with enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the pom-pom girls did not get a chance to perform this year. This was due to the fact that they, had no uniforms. The cheerleaders were sponsored by Miss Lorenz. These girls began practicing early in the summer to perfect their cheers. The majorettes, sponsored by Miss Cratsley, also worked hard during the summer and fall months to make their rou- tines flawless. Congratulations on a job well done and best wishes for next year. We’ll be looking forward to seeing you then. 126 MAJORETTES Top Row: Sheila Williams. Kathy Castro. Dodie Wcigold. Judy Kanchy. Ginny Marshall.
