PAHARIK Pfffidfiff Vire-Prefident 565,-e,,,,y Baafufofg ' On the fourth Friday of each month the Board of Education holds the board room of the Senior High School at Braddock, Pennsylvania. MAYME MEIER Serrelary to Superintendent LEO A. KOSTMAN, Solirilor stiff RUDOLPH AGRESTI its meeting in LOIS JOYCE Secretary to Principal 07 Wfe, the Seniors of '49, in presenting the BRADDONIAN to you-the faculty, juniors, sophomores, and friends of Braddock High aim to keep in your minds and ours, the mem- ories of days spent together in classes and assemblies. We hope to do this not by literary efforts alone but by photography and sketches. ea-ecfdou Sara Winters 'Helen Cranisky Geraldine Fialko 14 Manga 7a '7!w Gm 81444 During the twelve years of your school life your teachers have acted as guides and directors of learning in your efforts to take advantage of the oppor- tunities of the present day schools. They have tried to instill in you the manners, customs, and ideals of the democratic way of life. They have helped you to acquire practical skills, to develop wholesome habits of living, and to gain wisdom for a full appreciation of life and its opportunities. Students learn what they live and learn it to the degree in which they live it. They acquire the most desirable habits, interests, and ideals for society to the extent that they act in accordance with those habits, interests, and ideals in their everyday school life. The philosophy of your school is to help you in every way possible to live as a happy and useful citizen in school in order that you may continue to practice those habits and ideals after you leave school. Intelligent direction should lead finally to a realization and participation in social responsibilities by you as useful members of society. Thus, your schools should exemplify the values, attitudes, and habits that they hope to develop in you, its graduates. I extend to you sincere good wishes. It is my hope that you may find satis- faction in the work which you choose, pleasure in the interests you have devel- oped, gratification and contentment in living true to the high ideals you have learned in your Alma Mater. B This year's basketball team was coached by Mr. Michael O'Toole and consisted of Baker and Rector as forwards, Massie as center, and Wincko and Reabe playing guard. The quintet had a pleasant season and succeeded in discouraging many teams. Braddock did not have a championship team, but it did have a hard working team, which in the eyes of our coach and student body was just as pleasing. We all wish to give these boys the credit they deserve. K iz! i . it I Bam! The Braddock High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Louis DeBrozze, added much to the 1948-49 football games. Our band showed variety in music and formations-music ranging from the older marches to the more popular songs. The majorettes, a. new addition to the band, made their debut. Beside the accent on the occupational view it provides for theory and instruction that will affect social and personal living. Our five shops provide func- tioning knowledge of skill in drafting, wood work, auto mechanics, machinist trade, and electronics. Vocational courses are not college preparatory, but de- signed primarily for education prior to the securing of employment. In the last twenty years much stress has been put on vocational guidance due to the fact that skilled workers are badly needed in industry. We should be proud of the fact our school has one of the best vocational de- partments in western Pennsylvania. than there?
