RANIH 'HAND Texans of old delight in recalling the light-hearted gather- ings of cowpokes about a pot of coffee and a heap of smoulder- ing embers in the days when the rugged pioneers of the Texas frontier relived the adventurous activities of the time. Today we of Brackenridge realize parallel satisfaction when grazing through the choice pastures of literature, roving through the sometimes clinging reeds of mathematics, or herding together at the salt lick of knowledge. Class study, after all, is the strongest link between high school learning and its application. The dances, the banquets, the frivolities, all pass away with the whistling wind. The truly refreshing substance of edu- cation is the intermingling of newly-conceived ideas with those of companions as capable of giving as of receiving. Oversee- ing all, of course, are the instructors, or foremenp yet without the generous presentation of trail-blazing thoughts, classes can be as colorless as an albino stallion. The flitting spirit of class-room controversy cannot be captured by picture or print. The initial realization of new vistas so often first breaks upon consciousness during some unrehearsed class-room parry, that there can be few more valuable experiences in high school than the friendly blend- ing of differing ideas that ultimately result in a loftier appre- ciation of those finer loves ot life ahead.
