Til 9 il DB9 f you were asked to describe 1979 in sports, how would you go about it? How could you capture the thrill of winning the state basketball crown? How could you depict the disappointment felt after losing a football game by one point in the final minute? Or the satisfaction of ending an opposing teamls 42-dual match winning streak? What describes the individual pride felt when bringing home the number one state niche? To form a description, think back and remember the events and the people who made 1979 the Year of the Hawk Remember the fans who crammed themselves into bleachers to yell, scream and produce the spirit that was the life of the Hawks in '79. Remem- ber the coaches who took time to work and produce athletes and winning teams. And, remember the athletes themselves who pulled muscles and stretched their endurance in order to reach the top. The events of '79 provide an even broader scope on which to form a description. Who could ever, EVER, forget the state basketball champion- ship! Remember the last game against CMR, with all its tense anxiety? The score at the final buzzer - just more proof that we're still No. 1. If you haven't discovered, a descript- ion is impossible. A look at the whole year is the best you can do to capture the spirit. So turn back to '79 and ....
